New experimental PBeM needs testers! From: Craig Matthew Schlechter <cs4d+@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: Fri, 19 Jun 1992 08:01:24 +0000 I'm attempting to create a PBeM version of a relatively obscure game called 'Lost Worlds'. It's a fantasy combat system utilizing books containing first-person views of a character corresponding to the various actions they can perform (casting spells, dodging, attacking, etc.) My goal is to understand the mechanics of the system, so I need patient play-testers Knowledge of the game system is not required, and I'm going to keep the level of technical jargon down to an absolute minimum. The goal is to have the players think they're actually facing a thinking opponent, not a table of numbers. If you're interested, there are two things you can do. First, there is a list of pre-fabricated 'characters' at the end of this message. You could simply ask to play one of those characters. Second, you could send me a brief description of a character you would rather play. I need both types, since I want to learn how to create new characters and compare them to pre-existing ones. Use your imagination; you aren't limited to playing humans, or even "good guys". Keep in mind that I need to keep this a low-powered game at first, so no nigh-invulnerable-super-strong-wielders-of-the-power- cosmic, please. A simple dwarf with scale mail and axe will do. Mail any and all requests to cs4d+@andrew.cmu.edu. Thanks. --Craig Schlechter List of existing characters: Giant Goblin with Mace and Shield Barbarian with Two-handed Sword Fighter Mage with Magic Sword Wraith with Sickle Cold Drake (very powerful, don't want to use it yet) Lizard Man with Scimitar and Buckler Elfin Archer with Epee * Troll with Axe * * These last two were released much more recently, and contain a few advances over the previous books. They're completely compatible, but have more options available to them. I've never used 'em before, and I'm real interested how they compare, and how easily the new additions can be adapted to the earlier books. Up
