Olympia - Ways to make money From: Edwin Huang <eh1s+@andrew.cmu.edu> Date: Wed, 24 Jun 1992 14:39:18 +0000 >Simple question: How many ways are there to make money in Olympia? > 1) Take it forcibly from others. > 2) Work > 3) Entertain > 4) Build boats & ships -ut has anyone actually done this? I'm buying a ship this round or next. Someone is making money > 5) Mining? - But has anyone actually done this? Not yet. I'm waiting till level 4 with mining before I make hasty decisions, but I can see it's already possible. > 6) Equestrianism? - But has anyone actually done this? Hell yes! don't you know how expensive horses are? Yow. I'm running to horses once trade becomes unprofitable under the new market economy. > 7) Forestry? - But has anyone actually done this? Dunno. Send me loresheets and I'll tell you how. > 8) Trading? - But has anyone actually done this? Trading is immensely profitable. Moreso than killing a newbie. > 9) Construction? - But has anyone actually done this? Construction-not that I can see > 10) Weaponsmithing? - But has anyone actually done this? I think Weaponsmithing, like construction and shipbuilding serve in 2 ways. They a) save you money on buying it from the market b) can be profitable if you work with other players. > 11) Other? - But has anyone done anything else? kill monsters. Sell teleport spells to courier services. =) Ooh.. combining trade and teleport spells... man.. I gotta get my guy to the magician's tower real soon now! >It seems to me that currently, there are limited means of making money. >Does anyone have suggestions or comments on how/if any of these work? There are no limited ways of making money. That's what makes Olympia such a great game. The only limitations to success is what you yourself allow or impose. Personally, I'm pretty much disinterested in warlording, like Dr. Pain or Rocko. I don't necessarily want to be involved in *everything* like Prenola (ouch. Imagine the size of his turn report!). I like to be left alone by violence and to run a successful courier service. Yes, to me money is important. And I've gotten quite good at making it. To Dr. Pain, being the toughest guy in the neighborhood is important. To Merlinium being the mondoest mage is important. There are Drassan that excell in player politics. Try to decide what is important to you and figure things out for yourself. Do it creatively and imaginitively. That's what makes things fun. -Tony Wayland [572] StarLight Courier: See this billboard I'm wearing? I'm compulsive advertising man. Compulsive advertising man talking on and on about a courier service yak yak yak. Now give me some candy! >Rick Socia Up
