Galaxy and megadeath From: jduffin@pnet51.orb.mn.org (Joshua Duffin) Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1992 04:12:00 +0000 I agree with the megadeath people. To put in one more word on the realism side, though, remember that each player is a totally different race. Now, if they're willing to go out and commit genocide against all the other races, it's a fair bet that they're all pretty xenophobic. So, I really don't think you could capture a world, given that you would have to (for a homeworld) be subduing 10 _billion_ people who hate your guts. You would certainly need a huge police force to do it, and that would mean sending lots of colonists anyway. The conquerees might even refuse to work, in which case you wouldn't get any of the industry. All in all, I think capturing planets is a bad idea. On the other hand, I'm not too happy about the elimination of economic victory as a possibility. Previously, capital and production had some value in its own right, since you could win the game by owning most of the galaxy's industry. Now, the sole purpose for building industry is to make more warships so you can kill everyone. True, Galaxy is a megadeath-oriented game, but I liked the economic part as well.
