Olympia: declared attitudes From: skrenta@rt.com (Rich Skrenta) Date: Mon, 13 Jul 1992 15:52:49 +0000 I was planning to add a few more attitude levels to the current system when Steve Chapin proposed a more fine-grained control mechanism. This isn't quite what he proposed, but the idea is close. What do the players think? declare <unit> <flags> [combat-mode] [preference] s stackable r receive items via GIVE from other units g let other units GET items from us i receive men into this unit from other units o allow men to be taken out of this unit by other units b bar entry to location (for locations only) u unfriendly; attack if odds favorable h hostile; attack on sight, even with poor odds combat mode may be one of the following: kill capture booty preference will determine which opponent will be selected if several are available. Hostile opponents will always be chosen over unfriendly opponents. Examples: declare 501 sr # allow Osswid to stack with us, and # give us things declare 501 u capture # capture Osswid when we see him declare 1058 u kill 5 # kill 1058. If Osswid and 1058 # both here, deal with 1058 first declare 501 srgio # Almost one of us This system is uglier and cryptic, but offers more control. The ugliest part would be in the location report, when you see the attitudes of other units towards you (but maybe this shouldn't be displayed?). It this better than linear attitude control? The claim is that you might want to allow someone to stack with you, for instance, but not let them give you items. Or vice-versa. So a simple hierarchy of "ally", "friendly", "cooperative", etc. isn't sufficient. -- Rich Skrenta Referenced By Up
