We had ground-based transportation for thousands of years before we had airplanes! It took less than a hundred years from airplanes to jets! Less than thirty years from jets to the Moon! Technology doesn't get _harder_ to develop, it gets _easier_ to develop. Non-linear tech growth, if adopted at all, should be such that tech costs _less_ as more is developed.
