Even MORE galaxy suggestions... From: d8ilvja@dtek.chalmers.se (Jakob Ilves) Date: Wed, 05 Aug 1992 21:41:09 +0000 Hello Galaxy addicts! More suggestions. Right from my wicked mind. 1) Allow players to set the tech levels of their race. Say, for example, that a player may specify any combination of tech levels for his race provided they all stays positive and their sum aint more than 4.00. If players want to experiment with the initial capabilities of their races, this would be super! 2) Add another tech level/ship capability: jump range! The jump range is depending of the size of the engine in some way. Say that the range is range_tech * cuberoot(engine_size) * 5. (maybe the formula need some tweaking...). Ships cannot jump past their jump range. They refuses to enter hyperspace, it is that simple. This will encourage players to build larger ships and it would also make those hypothetical carriers more intresting. 3) Allow for planets to be evacuated. This means that all if its population is converted back to colonist canisters and all of its cap is stockpiled. When all population is put into cryosleep, one just puts it on cargoships and leaves an empty planet. This would be a handy way of giving away planets without needing to give away population. Now, one has to arrange with a lot of risky war declarations in order to get ones allies to wipe out the pop on the planet one want an ally to get instead. Risky and cumbersome... Imagine if the two races which will get in "war" because they want to clear some undeveloped outposts forgets that they have a fleet with contributions from both of them. Those ships will fight each other to death if noone remembers to separate them! 4) Maybe someone else mentioned this before but I think it would be excellent if planets did not obey an order of producing a particular ship type immediatedly (if not explicitely told so) but waited to switch until they had finished any halfway built ship of the old type. This would make it MUCH easier to design ships. One would not need to worry about wether or not the ship was built in one turn or two. And if it would be wasteful to switch from THAT particular shiptype on THAT particular planet RIGHT NOW... 5) Set ships on GUARD duty. A ship guardian will immediatedly jump to any planet of the same race which is within one jump range if enemy ships jumps to that planet this turn and reaches it in one jump. Of course, one specifies a minimum of total mass for the enemy ships at which the guardian reacts (so not 500 ton of battleships are summoned to kill a single drone :). This idea have a few caveats and needs a bit tweaking, but I would like it. OK, a lot of silly "I WANT these features"-talk without no coding suggestions... ...but besides of that, what do you think about them? regards HaJK (Jakob Ilves) <d8ilvja@dtek.chalmers.se> Referenced By Up
