Opening *right now* From: nicholso@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov (Melvin H. Nicholson YBH) Date: Wed, 23 Sep 1992 19:02:25 +0000 SPARF has openings *immediately* Mail munch@soda.berkeley.edu with the exact subject "help" to find out how to get one. But what is SPARF anyway? Well sparf is a strategic simulation of Australian Rules Football, currently entering it's third season. The participants play the role of manager, and direct training, lineups, trades, drafts and cuts to make their team the best in the league and win the sparf cup. Optionally, the players can also make press releases which are a lot of fun in themselves. Do I need to know how the real teams are doing? Nope. Neither the AFL nor any other real world FL affects the Sparf league. This is a contest between you and and the other managers, not a tipping competition. What if I don't know anything about Aussie Rules? That's okay. There is a crash course for ignorants in the rules (as well as notes on the difference between SPARF and 'real world' Aussie Rules for vets). Does this cost anything? Only about an hour of your time each week. Orders are due each monday at midnight (Tuesday at 5pm Melbourne time, I'm in California right now). Also, if you sign on, plan on sticking with it for a full season, as it isn't fair to your opponents to have a team switch on to autopilot before the 'big game' The seasons generally last fourteen weeks, plus 2-4 weeks of post-season play. What is Tales of WOE? (Nice prompt, eh?) Tales of Woe is a magazine about sparf strategy written by the managers of sparf and distributed for free via email. Send munch@soda.berkeley.edu (not this account) a letter with the subject "Munch: help" to get info on the mail daemon. Use this help file to figure out how to get on the waiting list and retrieve the rules (please read the rules before asking to be on the waiting list) Mel Up
