[PBEM News] Blinded Earth. From: bodiorm@online-dot-no.no-spam.invalid (Shadow) Date: Fri, 03 Feb 2006 19:05:22 +0000 For decades, centuries-- the Earth has been watched by factions of extraterrestrials. Some relatively friendly, others interested only in manipulating humankind and their resources, and yet others taking the role as the aloof watchers-- only interfering when the others overstepped their bounds. And their existence was kept a strict secret, only known or guessed by a very few among the humans throughout the planet. Then catastrophe struck.. Far away, a war began between a number of influencal races and factions, the effects of which was almost immediately felt by those watching Earth. As part of the network of wormholes was collapsed, the two local Gates shut down, but the oldest one not quite in time. The resulting surge of energy was considerable, and though several of the ships currently stationed in the system were successfull in containing the blast, although many substained heavy damage. However, while the loss of the wormholes meant that they had lost communications with their homes and might be facing decades of traveling homewards through normal space if they decided not to wait for a new wormhole to be connected to the Sol system, the factions concentrated about the damages they had substained. But soon things turned far more severe, as a few hour later, one of the damaged ships exploded when it was approaching Mars. Whether it was sabotage or an accident was uncertain, but the resulting electromagnetic pulse struck Earth before anyone could move to block it-- taking out a great deal of the planet's electronics. And the blast was certainly noticed by a great number of humans even as the pulse reached them. Crippled, many of the countries at Earth reeled, some even degenerating into external or civil war. Neither did things improve when the neutral faction began receiving distrubing reports from their agents at the planet-- of that extraterrestrials and their ships had been seen out in the open. A few offering genuine help, but even more moving to gain control over human governments and resources-- either through force or dangling the lure of power in front of the leaders of a country... To begin with, the neutrals did what they could to deal with an contain the situation on their own, but it soon became obvious that they did not have the numbers or resources to do much on their own. And so, after a heated debate, it was decided that the only way to save the natives of the planet from destruction or from becoming mere servants of an alien race, was to turn to the humans for help. And so a few hundred humans judged capable of handling the knowledge of that extraterrestrials were real, and to be able to deal with dangerous situations, were chosen and brought up to the principal ship of the neutrals. Not all of those chosen made it of-course, not being mentally or physically capable of handling the knowledge or what would be expected of them, those getting their memories erased and returned to where they came from. Those that remained were put through a short, but rigorous training including both physical training and certain mental programs given to them telepathicaly-- to help protect their minds and giving them certain information needed in their work. In the end, those that remained were seperated into ninety teams consisting of one human teamleader and a extraterrestrial supervisor, and thirty operatives each. Equiped with both advanced terran technology and disguised offworld technology, the teams were then returned to Earth-- their task being to detain the rogue extreaterrestrials, or kill them when given no other choice. Join team 11, currently operating in Europe. Do you have what it takes to deal with extraterrestrials, some of which are mildly put-- terrifying? Or humans who are quite fond of their newfound power, and certainly not willing to give it up easily? http://dragonworld.1.forumer.com/index.php?act=SC&c=16 -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.rpglibrary.org/news/ Up
