[PBEM News] Co-Op DMing, interested? From: bigdob52@hotmail-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (bigdob52) Date: Thu, 02 Feb 2006 22:05:23 +0000 First let me say I am glad to see a replacement for the PBEM news has appeared, I only wish I had found it sooner. Now on to the game... I am planning on starting a new Forgotten Realms game, and am looking for an exceptional individual or two to join me. This is a unique situation in that I am not looking for just players, but players who can and will be DMing also. I plan to get everything started and do all of the hard work, but my experience in the past has taught me that I can get burnt out at times, and I'm sure the same is true for most people. So my idea is a DM rotation. I plan on starting off and taking the group wherever they want to go, and when I'm done I'll pass it along to the next person. I don't want to put time constraints on anything, but I'm thinking a 'shift' as DM could last any where from six months to a year or two, to even longer depending on how the game is going. If you think this an interesting idea and have some creative abilities and good DMing skills, keep reading. The important thing for me is that I'm not going to give the group much direction at all. I want to leave everything as open-ended as possible. If the group wants to murder all the local merchants and steal their goods, fine, just be ready when the local militia comes in force to hunt you down. If the group decides to spend their time doing menial jobs and earning a steady wage, it won't be too exiciting, but time can pass quickly and you can amass some money. If the group decides they want to start a rebellion against the local government, more power to them. I'll provide the group with hooks and possible avenues to adventure, but I won't push in any particular direction. I do plan on introducing some serious moral quandries if I can, and I plan on making each player earn their alignment. I also plan on giving lots of opporunities to make decisions that not only will affect the PCs, but local politics, economies, environments, social structures and views, and whatever else I can think of. I don't want players who get extermely attached to their characters as any of them could die at any time (mine included), and I also don't want players who already know exactly what path their characters are going to take and what accomplishments they are already going to have. I want characters that are going to grow and adapt as the game progresses, and who are willing to see both the big picture as well as whats right in front of them. Having a long-term plan is great, but everyone must also understand that each adventure could be your last if you're not careful enough. Now, if you've made it past my ranting congratulations. What I'm looking for right now is simple; please send me an email (bigdob52@yahoo.com) detailing your playing and DMing experience. Players with no DMing experience won't necessarily be turned away, but you will have to do a good job convincing me that you will be a good DM. I also would like at least 2 different character concepts you'd like to play. Notice I said concepts, so I don't want class and race, but a description of the idea behind the character (goals, motivations, behaviors, personality). I don't want a multiple-page essay, but don't skimp on the details. I like small groups so I will be taking at max 2 players. I will be accepting entries as long as this ad is posted. Good luck to everyone who applies. -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.rpglibrary.org/news/ Up
