From: Judge Dash Request <jdr@u.washington.edu> Due to popular consensus, Diplomacy game Evolt has been declared an English-Russian-Turkish draw. France admits defeat. -Ken Broadcast message from cebulad@physics.orst.edu as Turkey in evolt: Thanks for an excellent game. Everyone played well. Stabs seemed to be the key here. The Juggernaut would have been pretty nasty if Russia had not of stabbed me. I was in real trouble from France, but Andre helped me out with his stab. Its always a more interesting game when you patch things up between countries after a stab (or two). Its just too bad things are so balanced to prevent a single win. I hope to see all of you in future games. -Dave Broadcast message from andre@duteind.et.tudelft.nl as England in evolt: Hoi Guys, Thank you all for playing. I think this was all I could get from it. Russia and Turkey were just a bit too strong to push back. I am sorry for France who has been a trustworthy ally for so long. However the progress he made was a little disappointing. That was the reason of my stab. When I look back at this game, I have had better moments to stab, but at that moment it was not one of my options. Hope to see you again some day. Date: Thu Sep 24 06:43:21 1992 (717342201) Subject: Diplomacy notice: lot Broadcast message from maltby@unpsun1.cc.unp.ac.za as Turkey in lot: Hello all, Having taken Turkey over from a friend who had just been stabbed by Russia I decided to follow his likely response - the armoured duck. So I broke off all engagements with France over Italy and headed behind Russian lines. That resulted in enormous gains for France - 5 builds for that year. Next I felt rather guilty at having dashed Russia's hopes so - I am not a heavily armoured duck myself. Russia and France had already agreed that France would win, and that served Russia right! But, feeling guilty, I offered to support Russia again and try to arrange a neat final battle between Russia and France. Alas, we miscalculated and Russia decimated the remaining Germans as well as myself, getting 7 builds in the process. So no final battle there. My apologies to you, Joakim. I didn't mean to sink you, I just wanted to make sure you had to fight for it. Just a great pity about the enormous success of things! Sorry, once again. Cheers Gavin Broadcast message from ndb026@nov.hb.se as France in lot: >11 to 18 centres in one year? > >Could someone tell me what is going on around here? Well, with a turkish player with only one interrest, to terminate this game as soon as possible, it ended up like this. He gave Russia all his centers freely. The question is why he signed on in the first place. Turkey? /Jocke Broadcast message from d91-dho@nada.kth.se as Russia in lot: I really do not know. Have you got the latest result? I have not been very active in this game, actually.... believe it or not... Could I have a copy of the latest hall of fame, by the way? Dan H Broadcast message from d91-dho@nada.kth.se as Russia in lot: Seems that I came out of it all more lucky than I could ever imagine. But truly, I intended to give away the victory to Joakim... Russia Broadcast message from nick@sunburn.uwaterloo.ca as Observer in lot: Russia: Why would you want to hand the win to France, is this Diplomacy? Nick Broadcast message from d91-dho@nada.kth.se as Russia in lot: I got persuaded and felt that he deserved it more than I. And anyway it was pointless to fight both France and Turkey at the same time. Therefore I wanted to end a strong second. Russia Broadcast message from nick@sunburn.uwaterloo.ca as Observer in lot: I got persuaded and felt that he deserved it more than I. And anyway it was pointless to fight both France and Turkey at the same time. Therefore I wanted to end a strong second. How many times do we have to go through this. There is no such thing as a second place finish in Diplomacy. Check the Hall of Fame, see what a second place finish gets, 0. The same as and 1901 elimination. From: Judge Dash Request <jdr@u.washington.edu> > Concerning the game OUNCE, Italy (myself), and Russia would > once again like to petition for a draw. We have talked about it, and > decided that we would ask again after England and France were > eliminated. Both Countries will be without a supply center after this > turn, so Italy and Russia will control 17 centers each. > Looking at some of the Hall of Fame lists, there are many games > which end in 2-way draws. Please allow game Ounce to end this way > also. Some of them are legitimate, but most of them are bogus. I don't believe in draws that are not stalemates. Game Ounce is not a stalemate; I will not declare it a draw. I will, however, declare it a Russian win! Russia can take and hold Munich, Smyrna and Trieste uncontested. Congratulations Russia. I hope Italy thinks twice before handing you the win at the expense of the other players next time. -Ken Up
