Diplomacy game 'shadows' forming on Washington Judge From: irilyth@fenris.claremont.edu (Josh Smith) Date: Fri, 23 Oct 1992 05:07:56 +0000 Just for the hell of it, I decided to create a second evil game, called 'shadows', on the Washington Judge. Excerpts from its full comment: "This is as evil as it gets, folks. Grey press ONLY, with partial (so you can send press to be received only by selected players), may be faked (so you can make it look as if press is being received by other players, or all players). Claim you're Germany. Send press to France, and pretend you're sending it to England as well, then send press to England claiming to be France, and pretend you're sending it to Germany. Correctly guess France's moves, and make everyone think you're actually France. All this when in fact you're Turkey... The prospects for causing arbitrary amounts of trouble are tremendous, but randomness is easy: using the press to directly help your cause will take finesse and subtlety. It is recommended that novices to the Judge (and to the game in general) _not_ join this game, as it will require a fairly solid understanding of the press rules to succeed. If you think you can roll with the level of deception this game will demand, we look forward to seeing you at the table. Note that Observer press will be limited to white ONLY. My feeling is that allowing Observers to post grey press would only make the game more confusing, not more devious. This game is intended to offer the maximum amount of intricacy in player intrigue; allowing Observer grey press would only increase the chaos factor, making it harder for the truly deserving masters of deception to actually do well in the game. Once again, we welcome the truly devious to the game." Trying to play in both 'shadows' and 'fog' is not recommended, and will in fact be forbidden unless you plead particularly effectively. I will also actively discourage people who list themselves as Novices in their registration forms from joining either game, unless they admit that they do so only for deceptive purposes. (grin) Note also that any game I moderate is NOMERLIN by default. -- Josh Smith, User Support Coordinator :: irilyth@fenris.claremont.edu Harvey Mudd College, Claremont CA :: consult(std-disclaimer.pl).
