VGA Planets Gripes From: mxb8@po.cwru.edu (Matt Bakaitis) Date: Fri, 04 Dec 1992 05:33:37 +0000 For about a month now, we've had a game going. Now, we're at the point where the tech we have isn't enough. We've been considering buying the "registered" version, but we aren't sure if it will be worth the money. Or the hassle, even. The biggest problem is the combination of quirks in the rules and bugs in the game. Quirks alone would be fine. In some cases, this would even be a good thing. Combined with a buggy program makes it annoying. For example: The universe has a limited supply of fuel. Players may be lucky and dropped on top of a store of this and be set for a long time. Others, as I was in a game, may be stranded 100's of light years from any other planet, all of those fuel poor. This is a major problem for nearly all the players in some form. Other bugs include problems with disappearing planets, chimera ships, shifting resources on planets from turn to turn (one turn, no neutronium, the next it's common, then back again?). 1) Does anyone else have problems like these? 2) Does the VGA "registered" version correct any of these problems? 3) Does the "registered" version add bugs? How many ships do you get? ....Is it _worth_ it? All help appreciated, Matt Bakaitis Matthew Bakaitis mxb8@po.cwru.edu Boring, Sydney. Up
