What is a round?  Galaxy simply doesn't have 'em.  Ships are chosen
randomly to fire, so its possible (if exceedingly inprobable) for a
single ship with a single weapon to destroy hundreds of opponents
before they fire once.  ...

I kinda like the idea of retreat, but to where?

Listen, I don't know what it SOUNDS like I've proposed, but its just
this:  that you cannot destroy all the other guy's ships in one turn if
there are a whole bunch of them.  I'm not saying that you and him cozy
up for some portion of the turn.  I'm not saying that you two don't
blast each other next turn.  I'm not really suggesting that my way of
SPACE COMBAT (!) is somehow more realistic (how can one version of
fiction be more true than another?).  I'm just suggesting a REALLY
SIMPLE but seeminly (IHMO) fantastically effective way to make the
battle portion of the game more playable (ie, less final).
