Stupid Newbie (again) From: an4871@anon.penet.fi Date: Tue, 19 Jan 1993 03:36:45 +0000 Ok, I figured out why the anon poster was messing up my postings, so this is take 3 of the same message. Please bear with me and hold the flames. <grumble grumble> I am posting this anonymously only for the reason that I do not want to give away any possible strategy for the game I am in. Please understand. I have just become involved in my first Galaxy game. I'm a newbie in a new land and I could really use some advice from all of you net.galaxy.gurus. Once I get the hang of it, I'll not need you help as much, but right now I am confused on where I should start. ******* Here are my questions, no flames please: Assume all of these questions are in the timeframe of the first five or so turns. Initially, you concerns would be expansion and defense, right? What are the ways to quickly accomplish this? Would it be better to use your first turn to produce a series of defensive satellites with the stats of [ 0 1 1 0 0 ] or to produce probes [ 1 0 0 0 0 ] or even a blockade-runner style cargo ship [ 1 0 0 0 1 ]? Would it be better to forget defense, build a series of small cargo ships and get ahold of as many planets as possible as quickly as possible in order to aid research production later? Or failing that, should I forgo the production of any initial spacecraft and concentrate on hyperdrive research in order to aid expansion in later moves? I know each person had different strategies. Some like to take an early offensive while other concentrate on research and expansion. I am not looking for people so much to say "do this" as opposed to "this is WHY it might be better to do this". I want to be able to make a series of informed choices that won't get me wiped out after three moves. Thanks for your time. I appreciate it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To find out more about the anon service, send mail to help@anon.penet.fi.
