Legends: MAR and SAR bonuses and marginal weapons From: dani@netcom.com (Dani Zweig) Date: Wed, 03 Feb 1993 21:49:50 +0000 1. Do the enchantable weapons -- Elven Longbow, Dwarven Axe, Troll Hammer, Mithril Axe, Mithril Sword -- give MAR bonuses? An examination of my past turns show characters getting a +1 MAR when equipping one of these -- either unenchanted or magic or power versions. However, this doesn't seem to be consistent -- sometimes they don't. What I'm guessing is that either they always do or they always don't -- but enough other things are happening to obscure this. What are your personal/directly-observed experiences? (As opposed to what others have told you.) When you look at past turns, does equipping these weapons give you increased magic resistance? 2. What MAR and SAR bonuses do you get from armor? My best *guess* at this point is -- Magic shields give +1 MAR -- Elven Light Chain gives +1 MAR -- Magic regular armor gives +1 MAR and +1 SAR -- Magic Elven Light Chain or Power 1 Elven Light Chain give +2 MAR and +1 SAR -- P2 Elven Light Chain gives +2 MAR and +2 SAR -- Dwarf Plate (magicked or not) gives the same MAR/SAR bonuses as Elven Light Chain. These best guesses, however, come from a relatively small and occasionally contradictory sample of observations. (Among complicating factors is the tendency of low-to-mid-level arcanists to suddenly gain one point of magic resistance.) Does anyone have personal knowledge or observations which confirm or contradict these guesses? 3. Half way through the list of 'standard' weapons, there are a few odd ones. a) Wizards' staves (113-5) and Druids' staves (122-3): Does anyone know what their combat bonuses and damage factors are? b) Enchanted Staves (Power 1 (I#116) through Power 6 (I#121) ): Does anyone know what their damage factors are? My own experience suggests that a P1 Druids' Staff has +20% AFB (same as a regular staff) and DMG of 1. I have no information on the rest. c) Has anyone seen item #126 in Realm of the Immortals, or heard tell what it might be or do? d) What are the AF bonuses and terrain modifiers for ballistae (128)? e) What are the bonuses and damage factor for Giant Maul (130)? Thanks in advance for any help you can give. ----- Dani Zweig dani@netcom.com The inability of snakes to count is actually a refusal, on their part, to appreciate the Cardinal Number system. -- "Actual Facts" Up
