New Galaxy Idea From: peiper@athena.cs.uga.edu (Garfield) Date: Mon, 08 Feb 1993 16:39:22 +0000 I had a new idae for Galaxy. I am sure most of you have noticed Lines: 30 how NOONE except by accident *poke John* researches Cargo tech. The New 3.3 rules have made a step in the right direction by making cargo tech reduce cargo weight by half. I would propose a more drastic step, since that particular way is not as effective as researching drive tech. I would propose that you allow Cargo tech to increase the cargoability by a factoir of 2, and that you reduce the cargo weight to 1/4. This would have the following effects. At Cargo 2, with a 1 0 0 0 1 ship, you have a loaded speed of 7.8 At Drive 2, with the same ship, you have a loaded speed of 12.9 With Bigger ships the change is not as dramatic. Let's look at a mass 99 ship, with base loaded speed of almost 5. At Cargo 2, with a 62 0 0 37 ship, carrying a full load of 174, it has a speed of 6.7 At Drive 2, with the same stuff it has a speed of 9.1 So It is obivous that cargo tech is NOT Useful. Not uder the new proposal each of these ships would have same speeds as above, except they could carry twice the amount of cargo. So the second example would go from a speed 4.5 ship carrying 174 cargo at tech 1, to a speed 6.7 ship carrying 348 cargo at cargo tech 2. Any comments and ideas are greatly appreciated.
