They are constant in RoTI.  Since you get a random familiar, I suspect
that they will be constant in NIC as well, but there is no data yet.

In RoTI, yes an E character can kill many lair monsters all alone with
a duel spell, assuming a 31st level arcane.  Cockatrices, Cave Blobs
and Hydras are all trivial to toast, as long as they do not have a
status.

Simple, you can use two seer's crystals, as opposed to a single druid
staff.
