DM: Tournament Strategy From: jas@rdii.com (Jim Smith) Date: Thu, 01 Apr 1993 00:40:04 +0000 Well, I've managed to have 3 of my initial 5 characters survive long enough to be eligible to fight as apprentices for the upcoming Death and Taxes Tournament. Since this is my first tourney, I thought I'd ask all the DM experts a few questions about tournament strategy. 1) Is there a rule of thumb regarding which types to set up an alternate strategy for? It seems intuitive that you would set up your standard strategy for offensives (ST SL BA LU AB) and your alternate strategy for defensives (TP WS) but where do you fit PS, PR and PL? 2) Should there be any difference between how I run for tourney verses how I run normally? For instance, I usually run my 9-10-12-15-17-10-11 LU (with expert in attack) as follows: Against Offensives Against Defensives 1 2 3 4 5 6 D 1 2 3 4 5 6 D -------------------- -------------------- OE: 10 8 6 6 6 6 6 2 2 10 8 6 6 6 AL: 8 5 3 1 1 1 10 2 2 1 1 1 1 10 KD: 7 7 7 7 7 7 6 7 7 7 7 7 7 6 AL: HE HE HE HE HE HE RL HE HE HE HE HE HE RL PL: HE HE HE HE HE HE BD HE HE HE HE HE HE BD OF: x L L L L L x L L x x L L x DF: x x x x x x x x x x x x x x Since the likelihood of getting a kill (or dying for that matter) is halved, how, (if at all), should that affect the strategy? 3) Since learning and experience are halved, is this a good time to raise stats (like CN on my frail offensives) or should I still concentrate on skills. Thanks in advance for any help. Jim Smith aka Mundamugu, Manager of Zulus From Hell -- jas@rdii.com | aka Mundamugu, witchdoctor, headshrinker and team James A.
