Atlantis Times, Volume 1, Issue 3 From: rwallace@unix1.tcd.ie (russell wallace) Date: Mon, 26 Apr 1993 10:25:28 +0000 Atlantis Times, Volume 1, Issue 3 --------------------------------- A number of people requested an increase to two turns per week, but a similar number said they wouldn't be able to keep up with the game at that rate, so we'll stay with one turn per week at least for the moment. The combat system seems to have stood up well to its first test. Those who lost their lives this month, you can start a new faction next Sunday; contact me if you wish to do so. A few errors people have made: Using MOVE N, MOVE S (wrong) instead of MOVE NORTH, MOVE SOUTH (right); STUDY HORSE TRAINING (wrong) instead of STUDY "HORSE TRAINING" (right); and using UNIT NEW 1 to give orders for newly created units (all such must be placed between the FORM and END lines). Please look out for these on subseqent turns. We now have a mailing list for Atlantis! Many thanks to troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu for setting it up, and here is the info he sent me: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi -- I've set up a mailing list for Atlantis players. All players are automatically on this mail reflector. This list is also available in digest form, with the letters combined and sent out every 40K or every week, whichever comes first. Mail me, troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu, if you want to be on the digest list instead. If you _don't_ want to be on this list at all, mail me, troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu. You will get only the Atlantis Times every week. here is all the info: Messages to all players: atlantis@heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu Messages to Russell Wallace: rwallace@vax1.tcd.ie -or- atlantis-gamemaster@heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu Submissions to the Times: rwallace@vax1.tcd.ie (Subject: Times) -or- atlantis-times@heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu Problems with the list: troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu -or- atlantis-request@heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu Back issues of Times, Digests available via ftp in heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu:/pub/atlantis Back issues via mail: atlantis-server@heffalump.mmwb.ucsf.edu (put 'help' or 'index' in subject or body) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Ettrick Shepherd invites future orders for the purchase of his fine horses. Currently the most comprehensive such archive in Atlantis! And it's available for the low, low price of FREE! Oleg is also soliciting contributions to this archive. He offers the astoundingly-large payment of NOTHING! So, if you'd like to contribute information, or get a copy of the current archive, write me at <gl8f@virginia.edu> (that's an ell, not a one.) But why would you want to contribute your hard-earned information to such an archive? Well, often you find yourself knowing things that you realize aren't valuable, because many other people know them, or because your worst enemy knows them. In that case, you might as well tell the whole world about it. Oleg's Archive is a centralized repository for such worthless information. Oleg's Archive will also serve as a useful source of information for future generations. So contribute now! At this instant the map contains 6 regions. Next turn, it could contain as many as 16. Remember: the best things in life are free. And worth every penny. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dryg, an agent of Think, Inc. wishes to tell those people claiming to be his followers that they should learn how to spell his name correctly. Once that is accomplished they should follow the path of enlightenment by donating all their worldly possessions to Think, Inc. Dryg, apparently a spiffy dresser, of Think, Inc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "One scout? What do you mean one scout! How am I supposed to explore the four corners of the world with _one_scout_!" "B-But the peasants -- they refused! There were press gangs from all the other factions. I couldn--" "And what does that damn Mario report back? Plains! No mountains, no forests, no oceans, all the way to Ettrick. I feel like I'm in the fabled land of Nebraskia. Well, can't be helped. Some day we'll be able to fire up the forges, and then -- swords, bows, crossbows, taxes, war!" Dominic the Smith, chief factotum of the Hidalgo Trading Company, again bends over the parchment on his writing table. "Now if only I could figure out how much to charge for the damn swords when I _do_ get some. . . ." ---------------------------------------------- Hidalgo Trading Company ###### ###### All Your Peacekeeping Needs ####====#### troyer@cgl.ucsf.edu #### #### February, Year 1 ###### ###### Greetings and Salutations, Colleagues and Smiths: Inviting all interested and able Parties to assemble at Carnforth, there to hold a Gathering of Smiths, both Weaponsmiths and Armorers. This Gathering will discuss Matters concerning the Formation of a congenial and commercial Society of Fellow Weaponsmiths and Armorers, or Guild. Such a Fellowship could greatly enhance our Profession, to wit: the Establishment, Promotion, and Encouragement of Fair Pricing Guidelines, the Furtherance of our Profession by the Availability of Training, and the Formation of Certain binding and exclusive Lucrative Contracts.
