Legends: Prestige and beginners hint From: frits@cp.tn.tudelft.nl (Frits Kuijlman) Date: Tue, 11 May 1993 14:43:34 +0000 I am just starting to play in ROI in Holland and I have a question about one of the hints for beginners. I am playing a overlord position, so for the moment I won't be doing much besides studying, teaching soldiers and getting the economy running. One of the hints for beginners seems to be that you should create some 1 men forces and send them against locations that seem to be easy pickings, so that you can get the statistics of the defenders. (I don't have scrying. I couldn't get everything :-)) These forces will very probably be wiped out. Would the loss of these forces decrease my prestige? Can prestige go below 0? I am asking this because if I want go influencing this would rather decrease my chances of ever influencing somebody to my side. And if I successfully influence a location owner my influence is back to what is was. If I want to go conquering this would keep my prestige at the same level. One small force lost + one force won = the same prestige? So, what's the trick here? Any body have any ideas? Or should I just go for forces, men and locations and worry about prestige much, much, much later in the game? Thanks, Frits By the way, Is there anybody else in this game positioned near Paradise Forest who would be interested in creating a thriving community? I don't intend to do much conquering, I have Atlantis for that :-) And yes, at the moment anybody can stomp me into the ground, so if you want to go berzerk in ROTI(Holland) you didn't read this message, did you?
