Basically it would involve taking your turn, uuencoding the save file, and mailing it to the next person in the line. Games with more than 3 people would take horrendously long (approx 1 day per person per turn), but I think a game with 2 or 3 people would be fun. Of course, there is no way to police it, so everybody would have to be honest.
