Well, I'm in Vithicar, arena #49. I just got chartered, but there are
  currently 9 unchartered teams here, so you won't find yourself
  surrounded by nothing but super experienced teams.

There is usually at least one team spotlight every turn, and 2-3 pages
  of personals. There are currently 29 teams showing up on the
  newsletter, only 4 of which did not fight last turn. There are
  currently 108 warriors. 1 Deulmaster, 5 Challenger CHampions, 7
  Champions, 5 Challenger Adepts, 17 Adepts, 20 Challenger Initiates,
  and 53 Initiates.

As for deadliness, there have been 11 kills (not counting DA) in the
  last 4 turns, or about 3 per turn. Compared to the 39 fights that
  took place last turn, that's about one kill per 13 fights, not too
  dangerous, but enough to keep you on your toes.

I've heard stories about arenas where newbie managers get challenged
  mercilessly to raise kill ratios of experienced managers, but I can
  say that that certainly didn't happen to me in Vithicar. I started
  out as a complete newbie last december, and no one seemed to go
  after me, even when I started out by going 0-5-0 on my first turn.

As others have posted, I've learned far more from the net than I ever
  expect to learn from managers in any arena. I think you're prolly
  best off starting in an arena with other young teams and looking to
  the net for knowledge.
