Duelmasters: AB article (Doug) From: leeme@cnsvax.uwec.edu Date: Tue, 01 Jun 1993 17:43:25 +0000 The following is an article by Doug something (sorry, guy, forgot your last name). I fought him in Arena 27 (Point) and had some good fights against him. Sharky is Dave Freeman, another retired DM manager I knew for 5 years. From 12/7/89 --- Retyped 3/22/90 M.Lee Another "How To" Make a Good Warrior I received a diplo from Sharky last turn that read like this: "I like to think I know a lot about this game, but I don't know how to make an AB go 18-5." Well, I do. So I wrote this article. In fact, my AB is now 20-5, is Duelmaster, and is on his way to ADM. As with most of these perect warrior articles the beginning stats are important. Though I'm sure variations on these can also be successful. The stats I started with and those that I think are the best development level in DM and ADM max are as follows: BEG - 10-9-9-16-16-9- 15. DM - 11-11-9-17-19-11-17. ADM max - 15-14-9-21-21-14-20. Strength: Not as important than with other styles. Your damage is done where you hit, not how hard you hit. 11 is enough to get you your weapons of choice. LO, SC, QS, EP, etc. Con: One increase here gets you better damage. The second gives you better carry and a little more damage. Every little bit helps. Size: No choice here. You're stuck with waht you get. 10 is max for this style. I've tried larger AB's with little success. My guess is the smaller the better, but 9 has worked just fine for me. Wit: 16 is perfect. 17 is all you need in DM. But you can go to 21 in ADM. Will: All the will you can get without compromise has become my philosophy. 16 in this example was the best I could do. But again, 21 in ADM. Speed: 9 is fine. 11 is better. But you don't need to kill yourself getting it there. He should get off just fine with a 9. Deftness: This, along with wit and will, is very important to your warrior's success. A high deftness is necessary to hit the chinks in armor, consistancy in hitting your attack location, getting around or through defenses, and your own defense. Your size and deftness should make you pretty slippery. Weapons: I like EP with DA off-hand for speed. Use them vs all armor but the heaviest. Vs APM and APA use a LO/DA. But the real choice is up to you. Find his best weapon and use it. Armor: Wear only the lightest stuff--ALE or APL. With a helm to protect his 17 wit. Strategy: The first thing to remember is your AB is an offensive warrior. Too many managers think you have to run them like scum. This guy eats scum. Start them like this then adjust it to the way he likes to fight. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Desp 7(8) 7(8) 6 5 4 4 2 2 6(8) 5(7) 5 3 3 2 6 or 8 6(7) 5(7) 5 5 4 4 2 2 P D I started my warrior slowly and increased him to the numbers shown above. He should gain his Adex ATT in 5-7 skill learns (no kidding!). Slashing and bashing your opponents will be much easier then. Other skills will come slower, but they WILL come.
