[PBEM News] Crossing Worlds From: bodiorm@online-dot-no.no-spam.invalid (Shadow) Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2006 21:05:13 +0000 In the year 2109, scientists in the US made an accidental discovery during a experiment, which would have lasting effects in the decades to come. Somehow, the experiment resulted in that a short-lived 'hole' was established between our reality and another. But while the hole existed only for a few seconds, it was long enough for something to be pulled through. Only part of the object made it-- but much to the shock of those brought in to investigate the object, it was identified as part of a White Star spaceship. The significance of establishing brief contact with a universe thought to be fictional struck hard. And it was decided that further studies should be made of what had happened, as it was thought that immense advantages in military technology might be made if it was possible to generate such holes between realities under controlled circumstances. Then, in the year 2187, the process was perfected-- to the extent that a 'hole' could be made to last for as long as a full two minutes and without damaging anything that was pulled through. Certainly it took immense amounts of energy and what came through wasn't always usefull, but enough was to make the project expenses worthwhile. All that changed when something horrific came through at the project's main site-- a creature only partially corporeal that proved quite capable of dealing with whatever the staff at the base threw at it. Then it began methodically explored outwards from the base in a widening circle. Those it did not kill, it left insane or altered into twisted versions of their former selves. Within a few weeks however, it became quite clear that it would not be possible to deal with the creature by any means known to mankind. And therefore the leaders of the US turned to the secondary site in desperation-- hoping to be able to get something or someone that might help them. So there's where we'll begin. Original characters from any fictional, published world are welcome. So far we have a dragonrider from Pern, a Herald from Valdemar, an elf and a character from Simon Hawke's Wizard of Fourth Street. http://dragonworld.1.forumer.com/index.php?showforum=3 -- posted from PBEM News - PBEM listings and announcements Reply to this post at http://www.rpglibrary.org/news/ Up
