En Guard From: jmh@gramarye.network.com (Joel Halpern) Date: Thu, 10 Jun 1993 21:17:40 +0000 Some friends have suggested to me that a play En Guard, a PBM run by a small outfit (a person) in Connecticut. It has some interesting aspects, but some of it is hard to figure out. The game appears to be set durijng the Richelieu/3 Musketeers period of French History. It probably takes more after the movies/books than the history. Part of the problem is that I have a very incomplete set of information. What I have is a set of rules for face to face use. They cover duels, and character growth. However, they are clearly intended to be used by a GM who is encouraging role-playing, and the rules provide a loose framework. They have interesting aspects, such as a strong hint that every character shall have a mistress, but nothing about getting married to anyone. Most of the rules deal with determining the effects of going to war. (All the character appear to be soldiers in one of the branches of the military. The military goes on exercises every summer. This is where much of the character advancement comes, although not all of it.) From reading this information, I can not tell how it plays as a PBM. Is anyone out there playing? Can they provide a description of how it works? Do you like it? It is very inexpensive. Thank you, Joel M. Halpern jmh@network.com E-mail responses preferred because we expire too fast. Up
