The answer to your question is no.  When any force does an Explore and
Map (Order #30), you get the terrain and some of the locations in the
surrounding provinces.  A Ranger Map will help you spot lairs and ruins
that wouldn't normally appear on an Explore and Map.

There are a couple important things to note.  If a Force moves through
a province you get the Fertility Rating, Cleared Land, and the Lumber
rating.  If a Force ends its movement in a Province, you get all of the
resources in the Province such as Silverleaf, Mithral, etc.  This could
really help.  Especially if you have pop.  I didn't find the 88 (yes, 88)
Precious Gems in the Province right next to me, for quite some time.  Now
I have a mining village in that Province.
