A Comprehensive Guide To E-Mail Wrestling. From: pmbarlow@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu (Pete Barlow) Date: Mon, 14 Jun 1993 04:07:16 +0000 Hello. This posting is NOT, repeat, NOT designed to draw flames about how bad fantasy postings are to rec.sport.pro-wrestling... all this posting is for is to let the fine, fine readers of rec.sport.pro-wrestling who enjoy the fantasy wrestling concept (much like the NetNews Tourney concept) know that fantasy wrestling leagues DO exist. This posting gives a brief outline of those leagues that do. Keep in mind, also, that this is a first-time posting. It contains much incomplete information about some of the leagues described. There is also the chance that leagues have been omitted. In any case, corrections and additions are certainly welcome to this address. ----- 1. UeWF. Universal Electronic Wrestling Federation. This promotion began nearly two years ago (by my reckoning) under the watchful eye of Mark Whittaker. Authoring duties were eventually passed to Ray Duffy, who in turn passed them to Rick Gualtieri, who in turn passed them back to Ray Duffy for the summer term. This is perhaps the more competitive of the five known leagues... the World Champion of this league is by and large acknowledged to be THE E-mail champion. It also happens to be the second largest of the 5; it boasts nearly 40 singles competitors and 15-20 tag teams. Winners of matches are determined by points attributed to the move selection and styles for a wrestler/team. This league does NOT feature real life wrestlers; Hogan, Savage, and Warrior are not wrestling here. This league recognises four singles titles: World, I-C, Atlantic, and Pacific; it also recognises two tag titles: World and I-C. This league also features the only official Women's Division. This league sends out a minimum of two to three sends a week: the actual telecast(s), and a Special Update type segment about mid-week. There is usually a "Super Card", the e-wrestling equivalent of a PPV, about every 2 months. This federations 'tries' to keep a somewhat hardcore view of wrestling. For further information, please contact rduffy@vaxc.stevens-tech.edu 2. GCW. Global Championship Wrestling. This promotion is just finishing up it's first year... Authoring duties have so far, to this point, been handled by Pete Barlow; however, as of late, more matches have been written by Jason Baker and Jim Gould than by Barlow himself; Barlow is now mainly serving as compilation editor. The singles scene has been the less stable of the two (that and tag team)... there have been six World champions in eight months with no repeats. The tag team scene, however, has been VERY stable... one team held the World tag title for all of the first six months, with the brief exception of seven days. While this league does NOT feature real life wrestlers (and never will, as far as the author is concerned) it does boast spinoffs of non-wrestling personas. Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Barney and Moe from "The Simpsons", Hefty Smurf, and H. Ross Perot are all represented. The number of entries in this league varies drastically: It has gone from largest to third largest of the leagues within a week. At present, it has approximately 40 singles wrestlers, and 25 tag teams. Winners are also determined by move selection. This league recognises four singles and four tag team titles in the following divisions: World, Pan American, Euro-African, and Austral-Asian. This league, sends out at most two sends a week, one being the telecast itself, and the other being a mid-week Update. As with the UeWF, this league also features SuperCards every 1-1 1/2 months. While this league does not keep as hardcore of a concept of wrestling as the UeWF does, GCW has yet to admit to it's viewers that wrestling is fake. For further information, contact pmbarlow@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu 3. MBWF. Make Believe Wrestling Federation. Very little is actually known about this federation, due to the fact that all attempts to contact the author, James Hussell, via email have failed. Four attempts were made: one didn't have the correct address, one bounced around in the system too long, and the last two apparently got through... either they went unanswered, or they just plain didn't make it, because they didn't return to my site. Since so little is known, all I can say is... For further information--or any information for that matter--contact ccjames@pyr.swan.ac.uk 4. CWF. Coley Wrestling Federation. If this league is still around (honest, I don't know) it should just now be finishing up its first 6 months. Authoring duties are handled by Brandon Coley, aka "Boltman." This is the only one of the five leagues that deals with the actual WWF and WCW wrestling characters. Just about every big name in both leagues is represented in some way, shape, or form, as well as four (at last count) fictional characters. Winners are determined by dice rolls. This league recognises three singles champions: World, I-C, and the Loser's title; it also recognises a World tag team title. Expect between 6 and 8 sends a week for this league. For further information, please contact bolt@wpi.wpi.edu 5. ECWA. Electronic Championship Wrestling Association. This league has suspended operations for the summer, after an initial 2 month run. Authoring duties are handled by the inimitable Don Becker. This league is along the exact same lines as the UeWF and GCW, the only major difference being how winners are determined; here, it is done by, amongst other things, dice rolls. (you'll have to look at the rulebook to see what I mean) This, like GCW, fluctuates with its entries... it also has approximately 40 singles characters, and 20 tag teams. This league recognises three titles: World, North American, and United States; this league also recognises two tag titles: World, and U. S. This league also is the only one to feature an official 6-man Tag division. Expect the same 2 sends as you would get from the UeWF and GCW. For further information, please contact grendel@src4src.linet.org ----- Remember, not all information in the above posting is accurate. As in the MBWF's case, all information is missing, but I've already explained that. If you would care to make corections to this, please EMAIL me at pmbarlow@miavx1.acs.muohio.edu, and if that fails, try getting my attention in rec.sport.pro-wrestling. I'm a lurker there. Thank you for your attention. Pete. Referenced By Up
