starting Rep. of Rome game From: fleeter@space.mit.edu (Rick Fleeter) Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1993 18:41:47 +0000 I'm starting up a PBEM game of Republic of Rome very shortly and I need four (4) players to fill out the six-man squad. If you would be interested in playing in this game, please drop me a note at the e-mail address listed below. First, let me tell you a few things about the game I'm going to run: 1) I've put together a rather large Excel spreadsheet to organize all the administrative stuff, thus turn output can either be in Excel spreadsheet form, or in plain text with tab delimiters. 2) I'll be doing all the die rolling, you guys stick to the politics. 3) The Matching War rule WILL be in effect. Sorry, no choice there. 4) I'll be using the advanced Province rules, but not the Pontifax Maximus/priests rules. 5) Roughly, the turn format will be as follows: a) Turn X.a - I'll send everyone a list of how much income they'll have this turn, the state of Rome's finances, and who died in the Mortality Phase. I'll expect back money redistributions, contributions, and any new "orders" you may have for the upcoming Forum Phase. b) Turn X.b - Results of the Forum Phase will be made public, (except for red card draws) as will the results of the Population Phase and aging/destroyed concession rolls. I'll except back nominations for next year's Consuls from the HRAO. c) Turn X.c - Senate Phase! Proposals will be made through the GM. Unless specified by the Presiding Magistrate (PM), voting will be done in numerically ascending order (i.e. 3-4-5-6-1-2). There may be several "rounds" of the Senate Phase, but I think the proceedings will go smooth enough once evenyone catches on. First, Consuls will be elected. Then a Censor will be appointed and Prosecutions will take place. Finally, the PM will resume control and concessions, military plans, etc. will be voted upon. When the PM tells me "Meeting Adjourned", I will put out a call to everyone saying so. A Tribune can then keep the meeting open for another proposal. As for assassination attempts, anytime AFTER I say we're in the Senate Phase an assassination attempt can be made. d) Turn X.d - Results from the executed military plan will be made public. I'll expect back from the military commanders if they want to revolt. Now is the time to play any Statemans and/or concessions for the upcomming turn. All trades MUST be made known to me or they are not valid. I will only publicize open (above table) trades, private trades will remain private. 6) I'll accept any sort of standing order for your faction as long as it is not too conditional. Default orders are: voting: abstain assassination: NOT to use Assassin card, NOT to use Open/Secret Bodyguard cards. persuasion attempts: NOT to put in any defense/offense money [NOTE: Before a persuasion attempt takes place, I'll give everyone a chance to irrevocably spend money on defense from their faction treasuries. If I feel a P. attempt is frivilous, then it will not be allowed.] knight recruitment: NOT to spend extra money on knights By unanamous vote only, I will change any of the above defaults. 7) The GM (me) has the final decison in ruling matters. If you feel that I've made a mistake in a rules related matter, please let me know. But I've learned that the rules are not 100% complete and some judgement is called for. 8) Time between game turns will be generous; I'll wait until at least the second game turn before I start putting strict time limits on each turn. Once again, I need four (4) players to round out a six-man game of RoR. If you're interested, please let me know. Thanks! Michael Bitonti mike@qm.aeroastro.com Up
