Legends questions: movement, NIC stuff From: robbiew@inviso.com (Robbie Westmoreland) Date: Tue, 20 Jul 1993 19:51:53 +0000 A couple of questions. Movement as described in the General Rules is kind of unclear. How, exactly, are movement costs calculated? More specificly, is the cost of moving from a Forested Hills (FH) province to a Grassland (G) province the G cost, the FH cost, or the average of the two? The Rules make one reference to "entry" cost, but the rest of the references are to "travelling through" cost. For those of us with stumpy little legs, this is going to make some difference! Also re: movement. Does a road help _leaving_, _entering_ or _both_ when traveling in a province with in the appropriate direction? Re: roads. How many laborers must a position commit before you can make a road? (And don't tell me the answer is blowing in the wind...) I issued the military order "Make Road (24)" last turn, and the turn results came back noting that Make Road is my active military order. Of course, they also sent me my turn sheet, with a handwritten message indicating that I didn't have enough troops/laborers to tear down that particular kind if defense, but I think that someone just had a brain fart when entering the order (or the error message that printed was wrong). Now, on the NIC 4 stuff. I got a keen newsletter indicating that all walls on locations numbered over 3000 were being downgraded to a lower level, and reduced in total. I was proud to know that, but it left me wondering if anyone has any clue what effect they are expecting their changes to have on combat. Are they (hopefully) making things a little easier on starting positions? Also in NIC4, someone told me that they'd seen Touched by Garm troops in a large Dwarven stronghold. My turn results sheet also showed me a human town led by a Touched by Garm Human. Is this another of those (now infamous) database corruptions? I can't figure out from reading the description of Garm how anyone but a Saurian would be caught dead or otherwise blessed by that deity. And no, there's no chance that that Dwarven stronghold has any Saurians in it. Finally, any guesses about how many soldiers it would require to capture one Hippogriff in NIC 4?
