[PBEM News] New Game: The Rising Storm From: Roy_J_Thomas@hotmail-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (rthomas) Date: Tue, 18 Apr 2006 11:05:12 +0000 I am starting a new PBEM using the rules in Caladan Characters will start at Level 1 (It is pretty weak but the first few levels come by pretty quickly), and (unless someone really does their homework) hail from somewhere in Merdan. I am looking to run a long term game, so characters will have a chance to reach significant levels of experience. This is a magical rich world where everyone knows something of magic, though one where something as simple as reading is the domain of the mages (one of the reasons why the inns have picture signs). One of my reasons for not using D3 is because the spell list and abilities in this game is not general knowledge and this will add to the realism. The nature of the plot will depend entirely on the types of characters joining (If 7 mages sign up to play, then I can run that type of game too). I have no idea how this campaign is going to pan out. It is all fluid and there is no Deus Ex Machina here. Good or evil could come of it, and if the characters want to pursue a different tact, then that too is fine. Note that I will not be looking after adventurers. If they decide to challenge to a death dual, a character who is beyond their ability, then they will get themselves killed. I will start the game when 3 characters are ready but I will need to have 5-7 characters in all (They will all meet up within a couple of turns anyway). Rather than meet in an inn (a rather worn out device), these characters will be driven to meet as part of the plot. Two of these characters will probably know each other. I will send each of the players a private background on how their characters got to be where they are now. It is up to the players how much of that they share, though each pf the characters will have a part of a puzzle which leads onwards down the campaign. It will be hosted on This Yahoo Group Page since I have found that Yahoo is a good site. Players should be over 18 (the game material is not of a mature nature but I prefer to work with a mature audience) and be looking for a Role Playing game rather than a Power game. I will need a paragraph of description, and a couple of paragraphs of background (more is good). There is a CCS at the end of this which you should fill in. It should be a pretty swift process, but please read the bit on Character Creation carefully. I have been playing and DMing RPG (some PBM) games for many years now (both more than 10 years), but this is going to be my first PBEM. I do not foresee any issue with this.
