OK, in the normal US games, there is *one* position which starts with control of all of the faction's resource - every factional character and location. They may have distributed this in the Australian variant so that there are many players with good stuff, rather than one player with everything (which makes a lot of sense to me). When I said "faction senior", I meant "the person with the faction's resources under his control". I was referring to transferrable prestige, namely cities with lots of population and marks (and, in some cases, factions which can bestow titles). > If you had a faction to join in the intitial set up, after all your > experiences and knowledge, Whichv faction wouuld you join? Overlord. Or Elves. Those two have the most resources on start-up, and if you can get in tight with the senior, you stand a good chance of being placed in charge of either a large army, a major city, or both. > What do you know of the Elven faction. In RTI10, they were run by a bunch of incompetent whiners. > Are the factivons not more or less equal in power? No. The Overlord has the most power, clear and away - lots of characters and cities. The Elves are second, followed by either the Paverainians or the Clans (and the Paverainians have really impressive information-gathering capability). The smallest factions are the Celestial Knights and the Lords of the Abyss, each of which start with a cloud castle and a really powerful 1200-man army (in RTI10, we were able to use it to destroy Tamor on turn 4). > How much Influence and prestege in ROI do you need to getv the average > guild owner and major location Owner. In COA I was/am getting Presege 40+ > leaders with 29 prestege and 58 influenvce Ummm. Prestige-wise, you need the same prestige as the character you're trying to influence. If that character has a title or marks, the prestige given by them can be ignored. So if you're going after a character with a 30 prestige and a title that you (somehow) know is accounting for 10 prestige points, you only need a prestige of 20 to avoid paying a penalty. 58 influence is pretty good. Each influence point is +3% chance of influencing, and applied to that are only minuses - for racial differences, religious differences, skill differences, etc. > JG> Marks of Wizardry are worth buying if you're going to be a serious > JG> arcanist, but since your faction senior will prvobably have a better > JG> arcanist than you, you probably don't want to go that route. > Is this true of all factions? The Overlvord? The Overlord doesn't start with major arcanists, but he... has access to them. The Lords of the Abyss has a really nice arcanist, and the Arcane Coalition has *the* best arcanist, plus several runner-ups. The Overlord doesn't start with any impressive ones, but he can get them. > JG> Using the RTI10 point sheet, here are some sample "good choices" in my > JG> opinion: > JG> level 32 Seer with Createv Orb of the Seer (40), 2 white crystal (5), > JG> 2 cinderoak, 3 precious gems (4), Mark of Wizardry or Power (35) > JG> remainivng 16 points put into whatever. A really nice troop status affliction, plus good PC and TAC bonuses. The key here is "affliction". Being able to afflict a troop status is a *powerful* ability, because it's free, and it's a 25-50% improvement of your troops (depending on the status). In Realm games, victory is often determined by who has the best training potential - if a faction chooses statuses that don't give troop afflictions, they are at a disadvantage over factions that can afflict statuses (mainly for INV/DAM reasons, but also because of the other bennies that statuses give).
