HI,

I've played in the factional variant game of ROI in the UK.  I must say I
found it a little unsatisfactory.

The game moves very fast as the factional leaders are player characters
and raring to go.  The problem is that everything feels unearned as you
have not spent time building things.  You have also not spent time with
your faction members and don't really know them.

I played as an Arcane Coalition member and Narviel was decimated by the
Overlord on turn 7.  You may say that I'm just bitter about it because
my faction got stomped but that is not true.  I personally suffered no
damage and had been given pop/money out of Narviel before it went down.
I was in a very good position to carry on.  The Arcane coalition members
were allowed to switch to other factions by GM dispensation.  I considered
joining the Dragon King.  He had also just taken Umbris which had
6,000,000 crowns in.  He could train level 80 troops!  Most of the other
factions said that they just could not match that.

I just thought that the game was too fast, probably unbalanced and left
one unsatisfied compared to a Legends game where I built my position.
Now a variant game in which you got the bonus points to start off with a
status and really good PC but ibn which the factional leadsers were
still NPC would be sound stuff.

This is of course just my opinion.  I know many players (even some
factional leaders) who have similar feelings.  Conversly I know players
that really enjoy it, mostly those who are in their first game.
