I play this game in the us, ROI6 and in the Overlord Faction.  We're doing
fantastically well, but that's because our faction leader is a brilliant
legends player.

My suggestions are:

1) Pick a faction based on what you know of the faction leader and other
players.  Because of the game acceleration this game becomes very highlevel
and very brutal very quickly, you need to be on an aggressive and good team.

2) Depending upon your preferences for positions, influence mongers are very
powerful in this game!  With a title and pumped up influence, you can start
grabbing major location holders from turn 1!  Very quickly a influence monger
can beat out everyone in characters and locations just by grabbing people
who are guild owners and the like.  Unless you've got a strong preferenc3e
for hero positions, I'd suggest that you take a human influence monger
with a major title.

3) Don't waste points on status'  Most of them can be gotten through your
faction.  Don't waste points on Marks, with a major influencer, you'll
get guild owners with marks.  Don't waste points on Ancient Arcana spells,
there will be people in the game who can give them to you.

Of course, all this may be completely different in your game....
