Atlantis Times, Volume 2, Number 6 From: rwallace@cs.tcd.ie (Russell Wallace) Date: Mon, 09 Aug 1993 09:27:39 +0000 Atlantis Times, Volume 2, Number 6 ---------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= As Donha Griselda de Torroella prepares to leave Lintan she can be heard softly singing this sad, sad, song... We were all to be monarchs of many kingdoms on the sea; Haqbar, Cerebus, Belwrn, Nicholas, Oleg, the Budgemaster, DoghwI', Celian, Tares, Mathew, Gillian, the Budgemaster and me. In the Port of Lintan, encircled by a hundred mountains or maybe more, that blazed like red and saffron offerings on some nearby or distant shore. We said it in a trance, and believed it perfectly, that we would all be monarchs and would one day cross the sea. And our many kingdoms, we thought, so vast and great would be, that under moons of madness, they would all reach the sea. We were all to be monarchs and we would reign thoughtfully but not one of us has been a monarch not even en Carnsforth nor Duncansby. But from the land of Valga, from a hundred mountains or maybe more, others have come and are now singing as will others that shall come to our shore: "In Atlantis we will be monarchs and we shall truly reign, Kingdoms that are so vast that they will one day reach the sea." ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a "butchering" of a very beautiful poem by Gabriela Mistral. For those interested, it is titled "Todas Ibamos a Ser Reinas". ------------------------------------------------------------------------- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The world begins anew, and with it, the unjust will be purged of their sins. The lion will lie down with the lamb. The chosen peoples from all the four corners of the world in this life will be taken up and cast down again upon the six corners of the world in the next life. But the unrighteous again will take the left-hand path, and war and strife will soon be upon us all. Beware the wolf in sheep's clothing. Beware the merchant who taxes. Beware the man with too many friends, for he will also have too many obligations. Be wary of information given freely. And Atlantis will rise from the waters of the deep for a time, only to fall once again beneath the waves, with the mewling of infants and whiners its only memorial. All this will come to pass. The Prophet in the Wasteland =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Enrique was the last nephew of mad, blind Dominic, the erstwhile Son of No Man. "Since I am the only surviving member of my family, now I have inherited the status of Hidalgo, and with it, rightful rulership of all Alghero and Skokholm," he said to himself. "Too bad I'm sitting here in the northern forests eating grubs and tree bark in the stinking rain while the boots of hundreds of Marching Morons stomp over the bloody fields of our ancestral homes." They watched. They cut down trees. They made bows. They taxed. And they waited on the end. "The joke is indeed on them, I would warrant. Just when victory was in their grasp, and they thought their superiority of arms had carried the day and carried control of the First Island, the heady flush of success quickly will drain from their faces as they realize it was all for naught. And so the world ends: not with a bang, but with a restart." =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ATLANTIS TIMES RETRACTION In a previous issue of the Times it was erroneously reported that the Braves of Scandamia were claiming territory. What they must have meant to say was that dead redskins were going to be littering the countryside in an area extending in a square between the sectors (11,3),(11,1),(15,1),(15,3) also included are the forest of Morella (12,4). The following therefore applies to all Braves and their allies in these areas: 1) Anyone in these areas not wishing to become deceased should vacate immediately to the south. 2) All trade offers will be considered. Dead redskin paraphernalia isn't worth much to us anyhow. 3) Anyone wishing to become a member of the Braves of Scandamia should definately reconsider. 4) Anyone wishing compensation for any braves unfortunately killed should talk to the spirit world. 5) Anyone found not complying with these restrictions will become charred remains. When you attack our alliance scouts with overwhelming odds two months in a row, don't come back and say it was an 'order coordination' problem. Have the honor to say you're trying to start something. The moral to this story boys and girls: Don't claim what you can't protect. The Prettstern Alliance Militia POLITICAL CORRECTNESS DISCLAIMER The use of the derogatory term 'redskin' is directed only toward those roleplaying the Braves of Scandamia within the context of the fantasy game Atlantis. We harbor no ill feelings towards those of actual American Indian origin whatsoever. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= ATTENTION: Git the Somewhat Stupid and his Fellow Almeria Conspirators First, you said that your FAC was just a defensive allience to keep everybody from getting slaughered. Then you got upset when I did not reply soon enough and sent veiled threats about how I would die a horrible death if I didn't tell you my intentions. A friend of mine wanted to join but you had to clear it with you allies, first. A perfect example of friendly defensive cooperation. You even told him he had to abandon any allies outside of your elitest group. You and your "defensive" allience attacked him, me, and others for no apparent reason. Finally, you completely ignored him when he asked "Why?" In my book, this makes you a liar and untrustworthy... and definitely not somebody I want to share Durness with. Good riddance! Now that we have both attacked the other successfully (assuming I win, of course) maybe we can stike a deal to each stay out of the other's space.
