SPFACS Fun in the Pit ;) SURVEY From: wool8657@mach1.wlu.ca (john woolsey 9209 U) Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1993 17:06:00 +0000 This is a Survey for the SPFACS. If you are interested in answering this survey please do. Previous players of SPFACS will have their warriors transferred over to the new SPFACS system. All relevant stats will be moved over. If you wish to join SPFACS please send your four warrior names to this address in a separate message from your answers. Please mention if you have played SPFACS previously with any of these warriors in the joining message. This survey is intentionally vague in an attempt to get some creative answers. Any long answers would be appreciated. What do you like about Pit Fighting Games? What do you dislike about mail Pit Fighting Games? Is your favourite charater type a warrior, a theif, a mage, or some combination of the above? Is there another generic type you might be interested in? What type of control would you like to have over your fighter in the arena? Try to define some types of strategies over a few rounds. The genre of the arena is middle ages. All of the legal weapons are forms of swords, daggers, and various forms of projectile weaponry. The timeline outside the arena is 500 years in the future. What would be an illegal weapon that warriors might smuggle in and what would be the penalty? What would be some items a warrior might use to taunt their opponent? You want to have a warrior of a certain race. What are the disadvantages of that race? What are the advantages of that race? eg. Trolls are ugly. They have good Con, Str, End, & Tough. They have low Will, Int, Speed, Dodge, & Dex. Trolls are terrible with magic and good with large bashing weapons. Trolls are also terrible at taunting. It seems more people end up laughing at them then the reverse. Although `Your mother was a troll!' doesn't seem to be very effective against them ;) The current fight rules are that any player who is lower ranked then your warrior can challege your warrior and the battle will commence immediately as long as your warrior is prepared. Do you like the way this is set up? Currently any action your warrior undergoes takes some time. Training in stats, healing up after battle, & training in a weapon are all time consuming tasks so although a battle may occur at any time most warriors will have some down time in between each battle ranging about 5 days. An active warrior might fight without training in between and reduce this period. Any comments on this type of setup? The current stats are Willpower Intelligence Speed Dodge Dexterity Constitution Strength Endurance & Toughness. Is there anything you would like to add to your warrior? It may be possible to send in a move to schedule a battle, and then log in and watch that battle from your terminal if you have telnet access on a port. Do you see yourself doing this? Each warrior will start with 50 `hit points.' You can define the hp level that your warrior will run away. If your warrior goes into -ve hps he/she/it is dead. Do you like this setup? Now for the totally long form question: Is there anything I haven't directly asked, and that you would like to give input on? This game will only be as good as the player's ideas (and mine) and the more I have in my developement book the better this it will be. Thanx a lot for spending the time to fill out this survey. - bfn - JAW PS The mail processor and the player manipulation code is done. Combat is about 50% so get your character names in fast as I hope to get the game working again before September ;) Up
