Yup.  I just ran into this same problem on my first turn.  I'm playing Galen
Ironfist in Antar, if anyone cares.  I managed to win 2 of my 7 fights (both
against pudly elf mages who couldn't get a spell to work on me at all)... my
greatest disappointments were against the now-dead (hurray!) Idaho who
one-punched me with the great sword (OUCH!) and against Green Gringo, who I
nailed pretty hard (to severely wounded) without being hurt myself, but of
course I then proceeded to get whaled upon and lost.

The minimum dex listed for battle axe was "average" and my 10 DEX just didn't
cut it.  So I've boosted it to 11.  I figure I'll do a bit better next turn.
Particularly since I won't be relying so much on a parry that SUCKED.

By the way, does anyone know just how much the penalty is for not having a
sufficiently high stat?

Also, how high does a stat have to be to reach "way above average?"  I'm
interested in picking up a great axe eventually, and would like to know how
high my STR needs to be before I should consider it.
