ARENA: Introduction From: srt@aero.org (Scott 'Dr. Pain' Turner) Date: Mon, 06 Sep 1993 17:11:48 +0000 ARENA is a gladiator combat game similar to Blood Pit, Duelmaster, etc. You design a gladiator, selecting his statistics, weapons and strategies. You then send him into battle against gladiators designed by other players. Unlike Blood Pit, Duelmaster, etc., ARENA is a free, fully automated PBEM game. You send orders to an e-mail address, and every hour they are processed and returned to you. ARENA is still in "beta test". It undoubtedly has bugs in it. Please be patient; I try to address bugs quickly once they are brought to my attention. The next two postings will contain the rules to ARENA and a sample turn. If you decide to play ARENA I ask that you follow a few simple rules. (1) Don't abuse the ARENA server. Don't flood the ARENA server with mail, don't send purposely weird input, and don't try to spoof another person's mail. ARENA is fairly well-protected against most kinds of abuse, and of course if I catch you at it I'll ban you from ARENA, and probably publically denigrate you. (2) Please send feedback. I'm interested in how ARENA might be improved and expanded, and even if I don't immediately respond to your mail, I'm sure to read it. So let me know what you like, what you dislike, and of course if you find any bugs please report them immediately. (3) I won't be maintaining an ARENA mailing list, so I'd suggest that general comments be posted to r.g.pbm. But please put "ARENA" in your subject line so that uninterested parties can skip over these articles easily. -- Scott T. Up
