I just bought Empire Deluxe and have played a couple of games against the computer (standard and advanced, 5 others all ranked easy). Have played the Interstel version (2.05) for years against the computer. I want to test myself against some human opponents. My status as a grad student writing a dissertation means I cannot be fanatical about the game, but from what I can tell a six player game would mean a decent amount of time in between turns. Anyone interested please contact me directly or perhaps post an announcement here. Anyone who has had experience playing by e-mail tell me what it was like.
