AG Article Compilation From: leeme@cnsvax.uwec.edu Date: Thu, 09 Sep 1993 07:00:57 +0000 Adventurers Guild Article Compilation, 9/9/93 Notes: The following two articles are the first in what will hopefully be guides for beginning and advanced AG players. Subjects will range from character design/strategy to forming a solid group of adventurers to adventure with to how not to design a certain race. ****************************************************************************** * Article on Paz Gravestone by Dave Saville Pazuzeus Gravestone is a good example of a quick/dodge type of character. He is my third design, incorporating lessons learned from my first two (one is dead, the other traded). Here is what he looks like now: Pazuzues Gravestone, Goblin Male, 36" tall, average weight. Str 23 Dex 30 Sta 20 Cun 21 He has 163 wins in 215 fights for 75.8% with 1 kill. His current power level is 1798. He has 21 adventures with avg score of 62. Skills: Trip: trained Combat Magic- Blink Level 1 Kick trained Initiative Level 3 Bandage Wounds Level 1 Bargaining trained Lockpick Level 1 Common Language trained Goblin Language trained Combat Sense Level 3 Intelligent Parry Level 3 Flank Maneuver trained Bow Use Level 2 Diety Magic Level 2 Cure Party Level 1 Magical Fury Level 1 Avoid Traps Level 2 Appraisal trained Weapon Skills: Fist trained Medium Shield Weapon Lord 26 points Flail Weapon Lord 31 points Dodge Retreat Bonus 27 Damage Point Bonus 18 His starting stats looked like: Str 12 Dex 18 Sta 7 Cun 9 Paz was very successful in the start of his career spending all of his experience points on stats. His defense consisted of dodging 100% of the time. His starting weapon was the flail. His main weak point is taking shots in the head. He can not take many good blows. In an effort to improve his defense, I picked up the Medium Shield and Intelligent Parry. Using 20/20 hindsight, this was a mistake. Paz's problems resulted, largely, from a low stamina. He has since corrected this and will be switching back to the dodge defense with some armor on. ****************************************************************************** * Article on Maug by Dave Saville The following is a sample design of a fighter/bruiser type character. The example is drawn from Maug #659. Here is his current scout report: Maug, Human Male, 96" tall, Heavy Weight ****note- humans can no longer be 96" tall Str 25 Dex 25 Sta 18 Cun 18 105 wins in 149 fights for 70.5% Current Power Level: 1301 17 adventures with an average score of 59. Skills: CM-Sure Strike Level 1 Berserk Rage Level 5 Kick Level 4 Head Butt Level 1 Bandage Wounds trained Common Language trained Combat Sense Level 1 Bow Use Level 3 Martial Arts Level 3 Diety Magic Level 1 Cure Party Level 1 Appraisal trained Weapon Skills: Fist trained Spiked Gauntlet Weapon Lord 28 skill points Dodge/Retreat Bonus 4 Damage Point Bonus 15 Maug started with no skills, trained in the spiked guantlet, and with the following stats: Str 15 Dex 15 Sta 7 Cun 9 My longterm goals for Maug were to be very good in berserk rage and become a good solo adventurer. He was very focused in the beginning. He spent around 80% of his experience points getting his berserk rage up to level 5. After berserk rage reached my goal, I concentrated on stats. Occasionally I would spend EP's on skills that would go up on there own with use such as kick and headbutt. Knowledge points were spent to make him a well rounded adventurer. Diety magic and cure party were an initial priority due to their absolute necessity on adventures. The Martial Arts skill was introduced after Maug had been around for awhile. Martial Arts is ideal for someone who uses fists or spiked guantlets, so Maug dropped all KP plans to work on Martial Arts. He is a rather unique design, but variations in EP and KP spends would still result in a good fighter type design. For example, concentrating on stats instead of berserk rage would make for a radically different warrior at this point. ****************************************************************************** Up
