ME-PBM Market Mystery Solved? From: v011l6fc@ubvms.cc.buffalo.edu (DAVE ROSSELL) Date: Sun, 05 Dec 1993 02:40:00 +0000 Thanks for all the responses to my request for market info. My team of dedicated researches has compiled the information and come up with a theory for your consideration and a request for confirmation. 1) It appears that the market has a limited amount of money that it can spend on any given turn. We aren't sure yet whether there also is a limit of the amount of a specific product it will buy. 2) When sell orders exceed this limit, the market divides the total money it has to spend evenly among the purchasers. It will juggle the ratios of the commodities it buys from different nations in order to ensure that each nation makes roughly (within about 100 gold) the same amount of money. This means that two people selling food and mounts will sell different amounts of each, but will make pretty much the same amount of money. 3) If you sell below the market limit allotment, your full sell order goes through. 4) Over the couple of games we've looked at, over several different turns, nations seem limited to making 28,000 to 30,000 per turn. This might be purely because of market dynamics, but it seems a bit fishy that different games on different turns would have the same number of nations exceeding their sell limits. The market, then, might be allowed to buy X-amount of gold worth of products from each nation. So, if you want to make the most of your sell orders, don't try to sell more than 28,000 worth of products in one turn. To confirm all this, we need your help. Can folks out there send us data from their gold sales, giving us the nation and game number. Tell us the commodoties sold and the value of the sale on a turn-by-turn basis. If anyone has ideas on if the market has limits on the amount of a specific commodoty it will purchase, please let us know this too. Hopefully, we'll be able to figure out how much a nation can make from sales and if it's tied to the turn in the game, to a nation's allegience, or to the number of players involved in the game (so send that info too, if you have it.)
