Source code for Galaxy v3.50 now available. From: kjp@cv.ic.ac.uk (Mr K.J. Pankhurst) Date: Fri, 26 Nov 1993 11:27:36 +0000 NEW VERSION OF GALAXY : V3.50 ============================= Galaxy has been upgraded to v3.5. Read on for more info. What's new? ----------- I have added to the galaxy code mainly stuff which has proved successful in my galaxy games which I have been running for 1 1/4 years. I would like to thanks my players for being so cooperative with providing feedback (mostly favourable unless if there is a bug). The following features have been added since v3.4: Added options: O AUTOUNLOAD Automatically unloads all cargo arriving at one of your planets. This does not work at a planet occupied by another race or an unoccupied planet. O SORTGROUPS Sorts the groups with respect to planet order. O PRODTABLE Displays a table showing how much production has been placed into building a ship at a planet. Since v3.3x a few more things have been added (which conributed to v3.4x): Fleet commands password command Where can I find it? -------------------- It will be installed at cs.utk.edu over the next few days (currently it is in /pub/incoming). ftp to cs.utk.edu login name: anonymous password: type in your e-mail address in directory /pub/bampton/Galaxy File you require is: galaxy_v3.50.tar.Z Who is responsible for any bugs? -------------------------------- I don't think there are any, but if so, then I suppose it has to be me. I upgraded the code to v3.4 & v3.5. With Rob Novak's help (and a few helpful players - if there are any) I have managed to iron out the problems in v3.4. The upgrading of to v3.50 was simple, so I doubt there are some bugs there, but you can't always be sure. If you find a bug contact me at k.pankhurst@ic.ac.uk. Please note I won't be here after xmas. How do I upgrade my data files? ------------------------------- I have written a program called upgrade which when you run it, it will ask you 2 questions: What is the game name? From which version you are upgrading (v3.3/v3.4)? Answer them correctly and you will find that your datafile has been upgraded. Answer them wrongly and you might get a crash. This program needs to be run in your galaxy directory. I suggest you backup your datafiles before you do anything. I won't be help responsible for any loss of data due to a bug. Enjoy it and look forward to favourable remarks. Kev Up
