Cadderly Crenshaw, Owner, Cad Enterprises ######################################################################## KESWICK -- Ground breaking ceremonies for Atlantis University were performed last month in Keswick. In attendance were the newly named department heads for no less than twenty five separate departments for fields of study ranging from mining to shipbuilding. Miles Fortwrite, Dean of the Collage of Mining and Agriculture, was "very pleased we have this kind of support" from the neighboring community of Keswick. Captain Kramer, Dean of the Collage of Arms, sent out this plea. "We at AU have the finest instructors in riding and weapons training, but I have had to double up in our Tactics courses. We desparetly need a battle veteran to take over our Tactics Department. " Golan Trishton, Dean of The Collage of Magic, "In July we are having our first conference on applied magic. We are putting out a call for papers at this time." When asked why a University was built, University President, Davon Hillman had this to say. "We have recently seen that the world as we know it is changing. People banding together, cities being built, nation states being formed. A new social order being established. We at AU wish to help in that process. Just as our mothers and fathers taught us, we at AU want to teach the children of the new world. We hope to be good parents and hope for the best for our children and students." When asked about scheduling and tuition costs, Hillman had this to offer the people of Atlantis. "We at AU believe that all the peoples of Atlantis should have equal access to an education. For this reason we have put in place a policy where tuition will be accepted on a donational basis. Donations of silver, goods or services will be accepted. Those with nothing can work in trade. We hope to turn no man away from want. As to schedule, our instructors are all professionals in their own fields. To accomadate their schedules we plan to hold classes on an as needed basis starting at the first of the month with classes lasting three weeks. Advanced classes will be broken up and scheduled on an individual basis. Currently we are terribly understaffed so classes fill on a first come first serve basis." We wish the Atlantis University good luck in it's future. ######################################################################## Diary of Lame Duck 15.04.01 The last month was the most exiting one I had ever. On the one side there were lots of joy on my journey to this wonderful land, which I found out to be called Teba. The life with my new friends is very enjoyable. I have seen so many new things here and we laugh, drink and celebrate much. It's not the case that we always have something to celebrate, we just do it :). Trailsize seems to like me nearly as much as I like her, what makes me very happy. On the other side business seems to go very good, I will have my first production sites soon, so I would say, my trading company does well. A few month, and I will be able to buy a new house for my parents. Not everything is perfect, of course, so I heard about struggles in my home country. It seems, that somebody, who has been sitting on a huge pile of silver got murdered. As soon as the next letter from home will arrive, I hope to get more news about this. When I checked my money last week, I discovered, that it won't last very long and I hope that I will be able to make some weapons. I hope, that I can hire a few men, who can I give this weapons to. These men should ask some of the peasants, if they cannot afford to give them a little food to prevent them from starvation. The weapons are only for self-defense, if the peasants get angry about being asked for their food... I think, I will visit the hard-working men, who try to find some iron in the nearby mountains. They would certainly like to hear some friendly words from me. I should ask Trailsize, if she wants to come with me, that would be very nice. There would be snow all around our tent, inside there will be a warm campfire. This could be very romantic... ######################################################################## In the beginning there was heaven and atlantis. And <GOD@HEAVEN> said let there be factions: And factions sprang forth in the lands. And <GOD@HEAVEN> saw the factions, that they were good. And <GOD@HEAVEN> said to the factions, be fruitful and multiply and replenish atlantis, subdue it, and have dominion over the peasants. And <GOD@HEAVEN> said, behold, I have given you food; to you it shall be meat. And the heavens and atlantis were finished, and all the host of them. And the mailed reports were the first month. And the factions raised forth a multitude and consumed all their food for fear of their brethren. And <GOD@HEAVEN> said, because thou hast feared thy brethren, cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread. Many of the factions took names for themselves and practiced skills that would be needed now that the dream of Eden had been destroyed. And the mailed reports were the second month. The named factions looked upon the factions without a name. Evil burned in their hearts. And some of the named factions took up stones to smite the unnamed, and blood flowed in the land. Many joined together lest they be smitten with stones along with the unnamed. And the mailed reports were the third month. The factions grew and prospered and peace once again existed in atlantis. The factions looked upon their multitude and said let us create great empires, greater than that which has come before or will be again. And scouts were send to explore the lands and find treasures that must be gained to build the empires. Armies were raised to expand the realms and subdue atlantis. And the mailed reports were the fourth month. The factions grew and prospered. Magicians came upon the face of atlantis and the factions became fearful of their brethren once again.... ######################################################################## +--------------------------------------------------------------------+ | The Padishah Empire | | led by the glorious | | Emperor Shaddam IV | | (insert fanfare here) | | | | is now offering | | HORSES!!! | | | | The Padishah Empire is offering these vital beasts of burden | |to all who may wish to transport heavy materials throughout their | |realms. They say that they've worked hard for the last month and that they've chopped enough wood to produce 10 crossbows. 10 crossbows! Incredible! 10 people working all month, 30 full days, and now they have wood for only 10 crossbows! They should have enough to build 10 catapults in this time! I have no explanation for this lack of production. Perhaps the circum- stances are really difficult and the environment is really wild. Well, they actually have no good tools to fell trees. But probably they are just being lazy. Anyway, I can't excuse this! I will travel there next month and look after them, even if the time must be reduced from my study time. Well, perhaps I'm back fast enough to continue with my studies until the end of the month. I wouldn't be concerned that much about the case, but my money is get- ting scarce lately, and if I don't find means of earning money, my men would have to work on the fields rather than produce goods. This would throw my work months back, and I hope this doesn't happen ever. My and the scouts of my companions have been reporting of other tribes and villages. We don't know if they are biased friendly or hostile towards us at the moment, but we will see what the future brings, per- haps we have to enter war, perhaps there will be a great alliance. Oh, if I could see into the future... Morgar the Mage ######################################################################## Gar and Tyle waited until the other workers were taking their lunch break. After such a hot morning's work, it was likely that several of them would find the refreshment of ale a little too enticing. Now was a good time for the two youths to make their way through the hedgerows and back to the village. "You think that Vish will want us along?" Tyle was always unsure of his reception in any situation. "Yeah. He said danger, didn't he. Well, you need good strong hands to deal with danger, don't you." Gar's logic was, as always, simple and irrefutable. Tyle started to worry about what sort of danger they might encounter. Rounding a corner they came face to face with Vlad, the prentice horse breaker. "Ho, Vlad," said Gar, "be you looking to join Vish with us?" Vlad gave them both a worried stare. "Are you joking? I've just heard that Prince Corwin's brutes are even now on their way here, to string Vish and his followers from the gallows tree!" ######################################################################## =-=-= END TIMES 105 =-=-= ######################################################################## Up
