DM: P-Rippers, Crip's Generic Advice From: crip@Micor.OCUnix.on.ca (Garth Werner) Date: Mon, 31 Jan 1994 18:20:41 +0000 Since there's been a lot of discussion here on the net lately about P-Rippers, and many have come out and said point blank that they either don't run P-rips or can't get them to win. Well, I've stopped running P-rips for the most part, not because they don't win, just the opposite, I've found the P-rip groove, it works, and fluctuations on it really don't seem to. My credentials: Well, I think I'm something like 438-300 overall with the style. Only my TP's have a better overall W/L percentage (just a second, I'll shell out here and check) Ok, PR's are 439-318, I only have more wins with TP's (465) and Lungers (771). These numbers include all Tournament/DM/ADM/Primus fights. I really don't have them broken out at different levels, but I can tell you in Primus it blows chunks. Anyway, I have 2 Primus inducted P-Rips, 2 that are Primus Eligible, and one that is eligible for Home Guard. In Regular, I am only running one at this time, and he's something like 6-3 in the adepts. OK, the theory behind PR's. For this I quote my article from North Fork DM Column, Turn 18 (The 1st of 2 turn 18's!), run 13 June 1989. / Most of witty entree to the DM's column ignored. Rookie mngr inquired about running PR's vs brute force styles (ie Lunger) PARRY RIPOSTE: ST: 9-13 A PR needs to inflict some damage on teh opponent to take him out. CN: 11-15 You are gonna get hit, and this will let you shake off a couple of hits. SZ: 3-17 Small is usually better, but the big guy can really pack a punch. (I have a size 16 PR who went 22-7 in regular DM so it can work). WT: 17-21 You have to beat people with skills, and this is the only way to do it. WL: 11-17 Usually 13 works, but this is a stat to play with. SP: 3-9 I find 5-7 works well, more would help your Riposte, but points are more important elsewhere. DF: 15-21 All my PR's with DFT>15 have all died, but I take it from others that it works. Strategy for PR: OE: Keep it low (2-4), you'll still attack a fair bit. Activiity Fairly low (3-5), keeps your riposte and parry, but raise it a to 7 if you are going to need to dodge. Keep it low, skill not brawn (2-4) works well LUNGER: ST: 3-21 Irrelevant, he's a lunger CN: 3-21 Irrelevant, he's a lunger SZ: 3-21 Irrelevant, he's a lunger WT: 3 Important, a lunger can't think about what he's doing. WL: 21 Important, has to be able to put up with the fact that he's a lunger. SP: 3-21 Irrelevant, he's a lunger DF: 3-21 Irrelevant, he's a lunger Lunger Strategy: OE: 10 Come on, your a lunger Activ: 10 I said, you're a lunger KD: 10 See above. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Anyway, since that time, I have been able to tune this out a bit. Wit must now be 17. Higher than that, they die, lower they lose. Deftness must still be 15, though I getting risky and mynewest protege has either a 16 Wit or a 16 Dft, forget which one. Anyway, out of my batch, here's the arena records (DM/ADM/Primus all rolled together, tourney's not counted) Jive 9-11-16-17-11-5-15 63-44(Primus) DM(22-7) King Key 11-13-5-17-17-6-15 56-41(Primus) DM(19-2) Venemous Porcupine 9-13-14-17-11-5-15 50-46 (Primus Eligible) DM(22-8) German Shepard 14-12-10-17-11-5-15 49-24 (Primus Eligible) DM(24-13) Jack Valtraeds 9-12-12-17-13-6-15 27-19-1 (Home Guard) DM(24-15-1) In addition to the above, all except Jack had at least one TV, so it's not just knowing who to challenge and who to avoid, but that's something else that will help immensely, but I won't divulge right now.
