As a puff of acid smoke filled the darken arena, I, Bloodshot of the
red discipline from the Rising Sun, entered the place where duels are won
and lost. Lurking in the shadows across the grey marble floor was my
opponent, Rx'lx, who was rumored to be of the Freemages. It was small in
stature and slight in form. Its dueling gown owed nothing to any known
style, being a wrapping and overlapping and skillful draping of what
appeared to be dozens of bits and pieces of indigo colored fabric.
     My eyes widened. Rx'lx held its head high and mumbled some words too
low that I could not hear them. A silver and indigo symbol flared in the
air above its head, then faded. It took quick deep breaths. Rx'lx's face
showed an overwhelming explosion of pain. My Explosion projected into being
and crossed the floor to engulf Rx'lx. Rx'lx spun around in a swirl of
indigo to slouch against the back wall of the chamber. Its move was too
violent and its face reflected the pain from the wounds it had sustained.
The summoning that Rx'lx used could not save it. It took my Explosion at
intended strength. The wineg darted over Rx'lx's head. A flawless target!
Red lightning left my appendage and struck the crystal. It quickly changed
from clear to red. I could tell that my spells were having an effect on
Rx'lx. He did not even change a Nuvaw crystal this time.
     [Examiner's Comments: Bloodshot's state of health was excellent and
fatigue status was good. Rx'lx's state of health was poor and fatigue
status was fair. Bloodshot owned the wineg. Rx'lx owned no crystals.]
     I saw a strong indigo glow flair and fade around Rx'lx, leaving a
faint aura. "That's better." It said. "A Rest does wonders." My vision
clouded. The chamber looked wood-grained, pale red striations and knots
marked it, though they wouldn't stay still; they pulsed, in waves, some
rising, some falling. The air tasted as fresh as sawdust. I felt hot.
Shadow waves rose from the floor. There was an answering ripple in the red
waves. I closed my eyes and realized that I had gripped an Explosion in the
air. I tugged at it. A red wave vibrated and enveloped Rx'lx. Sweat sprang
from my face and neck. My vision returned to normal. To my satisfaction,
Rx'lx felt my Explosion that I had released. I quickly wiped the sweat from
my eyes to see my spell slice through its Rest. The shock sent it flailing
to keep its balance. Spinning copper and red corkscrews in the air, I
enwrapped the yoneli in my color. I could see it take on a red cast. I
stared at Rx'lx. I could sense the fury surging inside it, then sensed it
end and harden. Damn! A shimmery indigo thread elongated from Rx'lx to the
tanenipol, converting it from translucent to indigo.
     "Bloodshot, I'm in need of a small rest." Rx'lx smiled and conjured a
Rest on itself. Death comes in many ways. I can summon a few of them. Oh,
Explosion. Thy missile be my friend. A quick unseen gesture and it was on
its way. A true hit if ever I saw one. Oh, Rx'lx feel my rage, feel my
power. The wounds that I inflicted on Rx'lx would prevented it from
throwing any indigo changing spell. To my satisfaction, Rx'lx felt my
Explosion that I had released. I quickly wiped the sweat from my eyes to
see my spell slice through its Rest. The shock sent it flailing to keep its
balance. Carefully, I picked the ran'n crystal for my conversion hex. It
was, indeed, successful. My previous actions thwarted Rx'lx from attempting
to change the ran'n crystal.
     As Rx'lx struggled to defend against my spell, it fell to the floor.
The Black Color appeared in the chamber levitating over it. "It appears
that you have terminated one of the indigo discipline. I declare you the
winner by killing your opponent," the old one stated. With that final word
echoing in the chamber, Rx'lx and The Black Color disappeared.
     [Examiner's Final Comments: Bloodshot's state of health was excellent
and fatigue status was poor. Rx'lx was killed during the duel.
Bloodshot owned the ran'n, wineg, and yoneli. Rx'lx
owned the tanenipol.]
