New: Downed (free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg) From: donotreply@pbm.com (PBM List Autoposter) Date: Thu, 25 May 2006 19:13:01 +0000 Name: Downed Costs: Free Email: morro.riz zat pp.inet.fi Frequency: Varies URL: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/downedrpg/ Type: Scifi, RPG Last-Update: 2006May22 Keywords: free, open-ended, email, human, space, rpg Description: Downed is a science fiction roleplaying game with emphasis to plotting and actions of the characters. All the characters have their main motives and skills already created by the GM, so players job is to flesh them out, give out a suitable background, personality and history. And of course, play them out in the game the best way they see fit. When applying, please understand that there is a certain order in which I will give out characters. Once you receive a description of a character, you cannot choose another one. This is because characters are partly pre-made and all the motives should be the utmost secret of every character. Do not let others know too much about your (characters) true identities or motives, since that might just come and haunt you until you (your character) die. Occasionally, players will receive (and may send) private messages from the GM which will contain information that only your player notices (or at least you cannot tell if someone else knows the same thing). This is called private information in game terms. Notice that this information can be used in any way you wish. For example, I, as the GM, could send a private message to player A (who is searching a warehouse with player B) about a gun he finds without player Bs knowledge, who is searching from elsewhere. Now, player A may simply send a message back to me that he decides to take the gun and hide it into his clothing. Then player A posts normally to the games mailing list about his search and states that he didnt find anything... in this game, you cannot and shouldnt trust anyone. Then again, trusting someone might save you someday... Downed will be played using a YahooGroups mailing list monitored by the GM. Applicants are required to give out a writing sample and a short description about themselfes. Hopefully, this will cut off any players who are not decicated to write more than once, in others words, those early dropouts who we all hate in play-by-email games. Posting will be about 2-3 times a week, depending on the situation. If a player does not post for a whole week without letting the GM know about his / her absense, the character turns under GMs control for the time being. Two weeks without any contact and you will be removed from the game, permanently (and receive a special place in my black book). After all, this is a hobby and enjoyment should be assured to all the players. And waiting for someone to post a reply for over a week is simply too long. Combat will be done using only private emails. Each player will be required to send a short description of their (their characters) actions directly to the GM and then I will post what happens during combat. Sometimes combat may take several turns. For example, when players A and B encounter a hostile guard, both of their players send an email directly to the GM, briefly stating what they attempt and then I post the result of the turn to the mailing list. Its important to notice that combat may be deadly, as well as some other actions, so treat your character with finesse as you would in real life. Yes, this was a warning. You have to be at least 18 to join, since some material such as possible violence and certain language may be considered to be adult material. I hope this is enough about this requirement. English grammar and spelling are to be good enough so that others do not have to guess what you just wrote. You do not need to know or have any rulebooks to play. However, this game is not a sim where players do whatever they wish and everything goes their way. This is a GM driven game and I will control the gameworld, end of story. As in any tabletop roleplaying game, players decide what their characters attempt to do and then Ill post the result. Some of these actions may be played by using private emails between the player and the GM, as explained above. If you have any questions, death threats or suggestions, you are free to send them along. Adding Downed to the subject line helps for better communication and messages will not be accidentally blocked or deleted. Thank you for reading this far and I hope to hear from you soon ;-) Morro [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
