That evil Primus Tourney... From: Ben 'Critical' Hitz Date: Thu, 03 Mar 1994 16:47:18 +0000 This is an e-mail I got from Mark (Moriarty) Zelaznick Sorta speaks for itself.... As far as the banning of Donatello you alluded to I haven't sat down and composed my letter but I agree, and it isn't just mega-managers, everyone I asked from lowest to highest at the Face to Face thought it was a good idea. I will give you the gist of the argument, try to read this with an open mind and tell me what you think. There basically was two problems with DM one was sandbaggers in Champions where a warrior had reached the top of his development and any new champions would never be able to compete with the select few sandbaggers, how many TCs did Deputy Dan win? The champion sandbaggers have been eliminated and the champion tourney is now wide open and exciting again. When you take a warrior like Donatello, Gypsy Moth, Dee Dee and match them against other Primus warriors the other warriors can't effectively compete just like champions had problems with sandbag champions. Sure a warrior can get lucky and beat Donatello once but they cannot beat him three times. That is why the Primus DM can change, since only one win is needed. At the last Face to Face Mirage didn't even bother to listen to any of the Primus fights being read since the outcome was pretty much known. And everyone, from the Novice to the Jaded was cheering for anyone who was fighting Donatello, everyone wanted to see someone different take the Primus tourney. One of the reasons there is such a gap in Primus warriors is the best warriors are given up to 20 turns to get that miniscule chance stat raise where most get 5-10 chances. If you made a special prize for the Primus tourney, that warrior would go to the Primus hall of fame (retired), and the manager would get an immortal DYO to compensate him. This would remove 4 warriors a year, and think of the honor, just like being inducted to a sports hall of fame. Just by eliminating one warrior, about 5 warriors have a shot at the TC, and as others get eliminated it becomes more and more open, encouraging new managers to try not only the Primus tourney, but also the Primus arena. This also requires little or no changes to the DM software just move the honorees to an inactive arena. After about 4 years with 16 warriors in the Hall of Fame, you could have a Hall of Fame tourney, letting the new name warriors test their mettle against the mighty Donatello. Also the Primus tourney would become exciting again and more wide open. Everyone I have mentioned this idea to has thought it was a good one, and Deke thinks Mirage would also agree to it. I talked to Enigmafia people, Gappda people, CDK people, TUM, Dark Circle etc, and even Dave and Judi also thought it was a good idea. Now go ahead and blast away cause I know you hate this, but I think it would be great for the game of Duelmasters.
