[PBEM] OH NO! I've lost my mind! From: deadlock@hopi.dtcc.edu (Mike Masten) Date: Mon, 28 Mar 1994 20:45:07 +0000 2 Hammer 9PR 0900 HRS "To all ye in the yard," Lord Etam spoke in a deep, domineering voice, "cease thine activities and hear me! Today, I am sadden, as well as the forebearer of disheartening news." The noble warrior paused for a few seconds to compose himself. "Lord William von Lance has past away after receiving injuries in an epic battle with Ru'oh the Red Dragon. Therefore, Kevin von Lance, I summon thee forward to receive thine knighthood." From the middle of the crowd, a young man of seventeen waded through the sea of people to the front. He stood six-feet seven -inches tall and weighed slightly under two-hundred pounds. Even in his suit of splint mail, there was something graceful about his movements. He stopped at the foot of the stairs leading up to Lord Etam, then glanced over his right shoulder. Kevin's blue eyes reminded you of the beauty of diamonds. His long blond hair was pulled back into a ponytail that hung just below his shoulders. Lord Etam walked down the few steps to stand before the younger fighter. Even upon the first step, Kevin still towered above his sire. "Hand me thy sword and kneel before me, Kevin von Lance of the Serpent Hills," Lord Etam commanded. The elder warrior received von Lance's bastard sword and waited for him to kneel. While touching the flat of the blade to von Lance's left shoulder, then the right, Lord Etam spoke proudly, "Before the eyes of this court, I hereby knight thee, Sir Kevin von Lance, Son of Lord William von Lance, of the Serpent Hills!" "Thank you, my lord." "Tonight, as we mourn the passing of one, so shall we celebrate the ascension of another!" ============================================================================== 2 Hammer 9PR 2100 HRS The celebration Lord Etam had hosted was truly spectacular. The chefs were ordered to prepare Sir Kevin von Lance's favorite meals and serve them with the finest wines in the cellar. As well, several acrobats and bards were hired as the evening's entertainment. Toward the closing of the ceremony, Sir Kevin von Lance rose to his full height and cleared his throat. "First, I would like to extend my gratitude to Lord Etam and his house for the memorial service to my father and the celebration of my rise in position." He cupped a silver, jewelled goblet in his right hand. "A toast to a most gracious host." He took a healthy swig of the wine in his goblet. "Second, with the permission of Lord Etam, I am in need of four to eight bold souls to accompany me at the beginning of the next ten-day, for an arduous journey from here, across the High Moor, then onward to my tower where I will take upon myself the mantel of rulership in my father's land." The new leader took a sip of wine from his goblet. "I will pay handsomely any male or female I deem qualified to come with me. If I am impressed with thy service, I may offer you a seat in my government." He paused to look at everyone in the great hall from lowly serf to mighty warriors and those of nobility. "Thank you for your attention." There was a brief moment of silence before everyone applauded and the party comtinued. ============================================================================== ADMIN STUFF: Apparently, this campaign will run in the Forgotten Realms for FIRST TIME PLAY BY E-MAILERS!!!! I know a few of you seasoned veterans of such games will try to sneak in, so please give the newbies a chance. The season is winter and the month is the equivalent to January. Time in the Forgotten Realms is as follows: Year : twelve months Month: three weeks Week : ten days Day : twenty-four hours The terrain(s) you'll be in are a temperate forest/barren/hills. When you mail anything involvin' the game, mark the subject as Lance2: Admin if you got questions about the mechanics or such. Lance2: <I'll most likely provide the rest of the title> if it involves a character move or somethin' that'll effect the game's and/or the other characters, NPCs, and things along that line. No one will need dice for anything since I will be doin' most of the rolling. Don't worry about gettin' the Player's Handbook or any other handbook unless you really want them for yourself. CHARACTERS: Send me a character with his/her full stats, description, history, personality, and equipment. Undoubtedly, I have forgotten something off this list, but I will inform you of anything I will need before the game starts. I will be accepting characters from March 27th until April 9th; therefore, you got time to make good characters. Also rememmber that the entire staff, village, and nobility will here of this, so social class ain't no problem. Your character will have 2000, YES! 2000!, experience points to do with what ever he/she wants. You can put it into your character to raise a level or two, put you closer to raising a level, or buy a magic item or two (which will be approved by me. No you cannot have that Holy Defender +5 setting on the shelf collecting dust!) Your characters can be any race and class. Kits are allowwed if you have the handbooks, but if you do use a kit from any handbook (with the exception of the Fighter's, Thieves's, or Elves), you will need to mail me the hindrances/benefits of the kit. Hey! I'm on a budget and try to buy a book every month or two. Your character will start out with maximum hit points at first level, then after that, I roll for them. I have access to the net from Monday through Thursday and will most likely e-mail a move on Tuesday and Thursday. If things go well, I might consider e-mailing moves on Monday and/or Thursday as well. Then again, if all goes well, I might just e-mail as fast as I have a response from everyone involved. S'Okay? Good! Hopefully, this will cover everything. Say it with me now, "COOL!" Right now, this is all I can think of to get things started. ============================================================================== Later.... -- Murphy's Law: Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Deadlock's Rule: If anything goes wrong, remove all evidence of your involvement and blame someone else. deadlock@hopi.dtcc.edu Up
