STAR FLEET BATTLES From: skip@obelisk.pillar.com (Skip Franklin) Date: Thu, 14 Apr 1994 20:47:03 +0000 Hi Roger, I have played SFB but haven't lately. I don't have the game system anymore. It kept changing so I gave it up. I only have Starfire now. I have the last two editions. It is much simpler to setup and play. It also has a strategic game module. I had thought of starting a PBEM game where the players are the economic, military, political and moral leaders of the race they represent. The battles would be left up to their subordinates to work out. Since the players are the leaders, they would make policy, spend the money, and make the treaties and wars. The actual fighting between ships would be done by a group of gamers at the game master's location otherwise the tactical battles would take months. The player/leaders would get reports back on how the combat or recon came out. It would be like being in the War Room or Situation room getting the reports in and having to make decisions on the sparse information they received. In the game, time is at four levels. The monthly economic turns, the weekly space jump periods, the hourly 'move to contact' turns, and the minute tactical 'blast them out of the sky' turns. (Not totally accurate but easier to explain). I also play ground pounding WWII, Civil War, WWIII, etc games. My favorite games are SPI/TSR's Cobra (standard not the expanded game) and SPI/Avalon Hill's Panzergruppe Guderian. What is your favorite games? I've thought of starting a Gamers BBS here in OKC so folks could PBEM using Fido, Internet, and local email. It would save on stamp costs. Send a game list and I will reply with the same next time. My love (read "wife") has a desert ready for me and I have my priorities.
