Survey from the Wasp; please read... From: seawasp@epicycle.lm.com (Sea Wasp) Date: Tue, 10 May 1994 16:42:04 +0000 Hello all. I'd appreciate all the answers I can get on this little survey. It's a little over 8 questions long (8+subquestions, but you don't have to answer all 8), and you can answer questions with as much or as little detail as you want. Just in case your "reply" function doesn't work well, the address to send replies to is seawasp@telerama.lm.com . Thanks, Sea Wasp /^\ ;;; ***************** Survey Begins Here *************************** 1. Have you ever played either roleplaying or strategy games through mail or Email? (If the answer is "yes", please answer 1a - 1b, then skip to question 3) 1a. If yes, how many times (approximately) have you done so? 1b. Have you played by Email Regular mail Both 2. Would you ever consider playing such games by mail or Email? 2a. If yes, would you consider playing by Email Regular mail Either one ******************** If you answered "yes" to either question 1 or 2, continue. Otherwise, you're done. Thank you. ****************** [if you answered "yes" to question 2, skip to question 5.] 3. If you have actually played such games, please list the games you have played and the general type (i.e., roleplaying or strategy. Examples: playing a specific character in an Email Shadowrun campaign is roleplaying; playing an entire race in a conquest of the galaxy is strategy, as is controlling armies in a medieval battleground) 4. Have you ever paid to participate in such games (such as the commercial strategy games set in the Hyborian Age of Conan, or the various interstellar commerce/conquest games)? 5. What sort of games would you consider playing by mail or Email? (if something you'd like is missing from the list, or if you want to explain your choices in detail, please do so:) Roleplaying: Fantasy Star travel Cyberpunk Superhero Espionage Horror Cross-Genre Strategy: Fantasy kingdoms [conquest, administration, etc] Interstellar [ditto] Cyberpunk [corporate manipulations, covert ops] Modern-day [politics, etc.] Combination of both (i.e., conquering the galaxy but able to pay attention to personal details if/when I like) [if you choose this one, please mention which genre or genres you would prefer, and any other details you think important] 6. Would you ever consider paying to play in such a game, assuming (a) you have the money, and (b) the game would meet your preferred requirements? (answers such as "only if I knew the GM" or "it would depend on what the actual setup looked like" are perfectly acceptable answers; write as much as you want.) 7. IF you answered "yes" or "possibly" to question 6, or if you just like answering questions, how much would you think is a reasonable amount to charge "per move" in such a game? (remember postage costs, printing costs, and that presumably the person running the game would like to make SOME profit on it) If you want a timeframe, assume about 1 move per week via Email, 1 move per two weeks via snailmail. Feel free to give any details, qualifications of your answers and so on; an example of such an answer would be: "$5/move, less if the whole move is about one piece of paper, up to 15 or 20 if there was going to be a fancy map or other expensive insert involved...". If you HAVE every paid to play such a game, please note down how much that game charged per move/time frame. 1) $5.00 setup, $1.00 per move thereafter. 2) $10.00 setup, $2.00 per move 3) $15.00 setup, $3.00 per move 4) $25.00 setup, $5.00/move 5) Other (state maximum and minimum, and any reasons or comments are welcome) 8. If you were going to pay to play, name your preferred type of game below. Name up to three, in order of preference. That's it! Thanks very much for your time. Any further comments are also welcome.
