SUGAR RAY results turn 18 From: fkschmid@cip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de (Frank Schmidt) Date: Fri, 20 May 1994 20:49:50 +0000 Turn 18 Match reports This week, there was only one newcomer: Songoku. Because none other joined Songoku got no match this round, just training. The rest of Bronze was more or less chaotic: The Black Bomber ended his career, Munch Howitzer hasn't been seen for quite a while (seems Alca Pone is back...) and Alabaster and Dominating Dan were unsure who their opponents might be. The match against each other ended with a 26:16 point win for Alabaster who also won his second match by absence of his opponent, The Black Bomber, and who gets the promotion to Silver. The second promotion goes to Lamont Lovelady, whose opponents both were missing, and the last promotion goes to David Hesserman, who scored to point wins against the unlucky Dan and against Lame Duck whose KO-attack in round 5 failed. In Silver, things were closer, although the favored Thugo and Terrier won. Once again, Walton-Bob has kept fatigue and therefore defense so low that Dave Diva and Terrier had easy KO-wins. Dave Diva followed a solid strategy but couldn't avoid losing against the much better skilled Thugo. Accipiter's way of boxing looks strange to me: this time he lost by KO because he 'forgot' to use all his skill. Without endurance loss he could have avoided this... In Gold, things seem to be clear: the winner of the Bomber Jack - Warnecke match will be most likely the next challenger of the International Champion. But first Warnecke has a match against Emil Sprett, just promoted from Silver. The match started normally, Sprett being a little bit more defensive, Warnecke a bit more offensive. The second round started with a series of attacks from Warnecke who took a clear lead, and enlarged it in round three where Sprett was almost always hiding behind his defense. Things seemed to be clear, but when Warnecke started the next series of attacks Sprett used the opportunity to attack, and at the end of round 4 finally a boxer sank to the ground and was counted out: Claus-Peter Warnecke had lost! Later, Emil Sprett won his second match against Maniac knocking his opponent out in round five. Bomber Jacks win against Warnecke was almost expected, and it was also a KO. Count Meout, Jacks second opponent, also lost, but only by points (by only TWO points!). Count Meout also sent Maniac to Silver. In the Championship match, Robert Sprunk's win was almost clear, so Champion BBB rather defended himself than his title. Sprunk tried the first two rounds to get through Battlin Bob's defense, without success, and then just tried to bring home the title. The fight was good, but IMHO Emil Sprett's surprise win deserved more attention. Now, here are the results: Championship Robert Sprunk (26,40):12/0 (24) 12/0 ( 8) 7/7 ( 5) 2/10( 5) 2/10( 5) PW Battlin Bob Brown (25,32): 6/7 (20) 6/7 ( 8) 6/7 ( 6) 6/7 ( 4) 6/7 ( 2) GOLD Emil Sprett (23,33): 6/7 (30) 6/7 (21) 3/9 (20) 9/3 ( 2) Claus-Peter Warnecke(24,37): 7/6 (34) 10/3 (22) 7/6 (18) 10/3 ( 0) KO Count Meout (24,32): 7/6 (27) 7/6 (24) 7/6 (17) 7/6 (14) 7/6 (11) Maniac (22,30): 7/6 (23) 6/6 (18) 8/5 ( 8) 6/6 ( 3) 6/6 ( 0) KO Bomber Jack (24,39): 7/6 (34) 8/5 (20) 7/6 (15) 7/6 ( 4) Claus-Peter Warnecke(24,37): 7/6 (32) 10/3 (16) 7/6 (11) 10/3 (-3) KO Emil Sprett (23,33): 6/7 (28) 8/4 (21) 3/9 (20) 8/4 (11) 9/3 ( 1) Maniac (22,30): 8/5 (22) 6/6 (15) 6/6 (12) 7/5 ( 5) 6/6 (-4) KO Bomber Jack (24,39): 7/6 (34) 8/5 (26) 7/6 (21) 7/6 (16) 8/5 ( 8) PW Count Meout (24,32): 7/6 (27) 7/6 (20) 7/6 (15) 7/6 (10) 7/6 ( 3) SILVER Terrier (23,25): 6/6 (19) 8/3 (17) 8/3 (15) 6/6 (13) 4/9 (11) PW Accipiter (19,31): 8/3 (20) 3/6 (15) 3/6 (10) 3/6 ( 9) 3/6 ( 8) Dave Diva (19,31): 6/5 (26) 6/5 (21) 6/5 (18) 6/5 (13) Walton-Bob (16,35): 6/2 (25) 6/3 (16) 5/3 ( 8) 6/3 (-1) KO Thugo (22,29): 7/5 (18) 7/5 (15) 7/5 (12) 7/5 ( 9) 7/5 ( 6) Accipiter (19,31): 9/3 (15) 2/7 (14) 2/6 (12) 5/3 ( 3) 2/5 (-1) KO Terrier (23,25): 6/6 (23) 8/3 (13) 8/3 ( 3) 6/6 ( 1) Walton-Bob (16,35): 0/6 (35) 7/3 (20) 7/2 ( 5) 6/2 (-5) KO Thugo (22,29): 7/5 (22) 7/5 (17) 7/5 (12) 7/5 ( 7) Dave Diva (19,31): 7/4 (21) 6/5 (14) 6/5 ( 7) 6/5 ( 0) KO BRONZE Alabaster (16,31): 8/2 (25) 8/2 (19) The Black Bomber (16,32): 0/0 (16) 0/0 ( 0) KO David Hesserman (20,35): 5/6 (33) 5/6 (31) 6/5 (28) 6/5 (25) 6/5 (10) PW Lame Duck (16,31): 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 11/0 ( 5) Lamont Lovelady (19,25): 6/5 (22) 6/5 (19) 1/8 (19) 1/8 (19) 6/5 (16) The Black Bomber (16,32): 0/0 (20) 0/0 ( 8) 0/0 ( 6) 0/0 ( 4) 0/0 (-8) KO Alabaster (16,31): 3/5 (30) 3/5 (29) 6/3 (26) 7/2 (21) 7/0 (11) PW Dominating Dan (16,34): 3/4 (33) 4/3 (32) 2/4 (28) 3/4 (21) 4/2 (11) Lamont Lovelady (19,25): 1/8 (25) 6/5 (22) 6/5 (19) Munch Howitzer (21,26): 0/0 (24) 0/0 (12) 0/0 ( 0) KO David Hesserman (20,35): 5/6 (33) 5/6 (31) 6/5 (28) 6/5 (25) 6/5 (22) PW Dominating Dan (16,34): 5/2 (27) 3/4 (24) 2/4 (20) 1/4 (16) 4/2 ( 8) Lame Duck (16,31): 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 0/8 (31) 11/0 (17) PW Munch Howitzer (21,26): 0/0 (26) 0/0 (26) 0/0 (26) 0/0 (26) 0/0 ( 4) Songoku (17,30): only newcomer, therefore no match Matches in Turn 19: Championship: Robert Sprunk (26,41) vs. Bomber Jack (26,40) GOLD: Terrier (25,26) vs. Count Meout (26,31) Thugo (25,29) vs. Battlin Bob Brown (26,31) Count Meout (26,31) vs. Emil Sprett (26,33) Terrier (25,26) vs. Battlin Bob Brown (26,31) Thugo (25,29) vs. Emil Sprett (26,33) SILVER: David Hesserman (20,41) vs. Dave Diva (20,31) Lamont Lovelady (21,28) vs. Maniac (21,30) Alabaster (18,32) vs. Dave Diva (20,31) Maniac (21,30) vs. Claus-Peter Warnecke (23,37) Lamont Lovelady (21,28) vs. David Hesserman (20,41) Claus-Peter Warnecke (23,37) vs. Alabaster (18,32) BRONZE: Songoku (18,30) vs. Walton-Bob (15,35) Accipiter (19,30) vs. Dominating Dan (17,32) Walton-Bob (15,35) vs. Lame Duck (17,31) Songoku (18,30) vs. Dominating Dan (17,32) Accipiter (19,30) vs. Lame Duck (17,31) Pausing boxers: Azrael Xavier (24,35) (GOLD) Little Frank (24,19) (SILVER) Duke (15,39) (BRONZE) Munch Howitzer (20,25) (BRONZE) Kenny Brett (19,28) (BRONZE) Boxers that can restart: (with (17,32) in league BRONZE) 'Tiger' Honeycutt Leng Silluen Bill Trevis Michael Freeman Yogami The man The Black Bomber ends his career. :-( Gold record: Bomber Jack 13 -> challenges Robert Sprunk Emil Sprett 6 Count Meout 3 NEWS AND STORIES Count Meout writes: As Count Meout is being carried into the dressing room on a stretcher after the championship fight with Battlin Bob Brown a Sugar Ray Reporter tries to get an interview with the Count but the Count's manager, Tom Foolery, interrupts: SRI: Count Meout, you were just knocked out in the championship fight. You've never been knocked out before, how do you feel? CM: (weakly) I'm going to Disneyland! SRI: What? TF: (interrupting) Never mind. He was supposed to say that if he won. We want a rematch!... CM: (weakly) No we don't... TF: (interrupting again) He's delirious. When he comes around he'll want a rematch. Next time we want more money though. We want at least as much money as Battlin Bob Brown gets. No, we want twice as much! No, we want as much money as Battlin Bob Brown pays the judges! We wuz robbed!... CM: (stronger) Float like a boat, Swing on a tree, I hit him then he hit me... SRI: Well, there you have it. The Count might have had his brains scrambled but he still has a sense of humor. This reporter thinks he'll be back, so don't count the Count out! Battlin Bob Brown writes: A Sugar Ray interviewer speaks to Battlin' Bob Brown. SRI: A double KO with Count Meout, are you dissappointed with that? BBB: No, not really. SRI: Turn around, the camera is that way. BBB: Right, I knew that. Well, maybe a little bit. A KO would have been better. SRI: The oddsmakers all give Robert Sprunk the edge next week. He's younger, faster and tougher. BBB: Well, yea, but: Butterfly float over ring, his punches land with great abandon, being KO'ed really sucks. SRI: Very nice. BBB: 'At's a Haiku, ya know. SRI: Yes, I know. Thanks Bob.
